Make Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson gay lovers, fans urge BBC
UK Daily Mail ^ | July 28, 2014 | Gemma Mullin

The creator of BBC TV series Sherlock has been inundated with fan mail urging him to make the detective and Dr Watson gay lovers. Mark Gatiss admitted he had been overwhelmed with explicit drawings and plotline ideas ahead of the new series starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, due late next year. It follows a running joke in the show which hints the pair might be closer than friends, especially by landlady Mrs Hudson, played by Una Stubbs, 77, who often makes references to their sexuality.

Good point.

why do we have to introduce homosexuality into every area of life? Why in every movie, TV show, literature?

I remember watching the old Sherlock Holmes with Basil Rathbone. Times being different then, there was no sexual innuendo between Holmes and Watson. The stories were good without it.

Why do you have to introduce a homosexual element into a friendship/partnership between unattached men????

Yep, as somebody else said, will we see this happen with Batman and Robin????

Watson’s wife’s name was Mary Morstan (Sign of the Four). He was apparently a widower when he moved back to Baker Street. Sorry, girls, maybe you can make up a romance with Moriarty.

I don’t see how it would help the show at all.

Well, it would lose them three regular viewers in this household -- permanently.

How does %1 of the population inundate about anything?
Every homosexual watches this show? Everyone of them writes letter about about?
Pure nonsense. Stop with the everything and whole wide world is homosexual crap. It is not.
Don’t ruin a good show.

They won’t be happy until the entire world are all “gay” lovers.

Why don’t they make more of their own? Leave the rest of us alone?

For example, why not make more movies such as “Brokeback”?

Oh, wait, in spite of critical acclaim, “Brokeback” didn’t do so well at the box office.

Hmmm, maybe there isn’t this great demand after all, for homosexual themes in movies and TV shows?????

“Even in other such shows if a heterosexual couple get together the show usually goes downhill from there.”

Yep, just look at “Moonlighting”. The tension was half the fun of the show, once that was gone, it was all downhill.

I don’t know.

I continued to enjoy Chuck even after he and Sarah developed a real romantic relationship and even married.

How can you tell if an Englishman is gay, anyway?

No, Holmes is long out of copyright, anybody can do whatever they want with the characters now.

Correct. Mainly driven by teenage girls surprisingly. My daughter tells me about this. Teen girls that advocate for homosexual relationships for shows such as Sherlock and Supernatural. I don’t understand why at all.

I have an idea.

Sherlock Holmes stories are detective stories. Holmes is a detective. Watson helps him out in his work.

These characters sex lives have NOTHING TO DO with the underlying plots of them doing detective work.

So, my idea is, let’s leave out any issues of sexuality altogether. Just let them be detectives.

I came across a "recent" Holmes screen treatment. In a minor subplot, some artiste wants to have a child by Holmes, and he gets out of it by alluding that he and Watson are lovers. Watson was not amused.

Come to think of it, in the ACD stories, Watson marries, as he does in the current BBC series (American, female, ex-CIA assassin...). Now that I think about it, Holmes was having a hookup with a woman in the BBC production as well, not to mention the Irene Adler obsession.

If they do, we’ll stop buying the DVDs or watching the show.

The queers don’t claim EVERY historical figure. For instance they do not like to acknowledge some of the foremost butch fags of all time-—Adolph Hitler and his inner circle of the NSDAP-—the German Socialist Labor Party.

They also do not currently claim certain DC or Chicago politicians.

Now, *this* Holmes and Watson (CBS, "Elementary") hooking up wouldn't be a bad thing:

I tried to watch this show, and did not care for it. I guess I'm too much of a Holmes purist to watch a modernized version. I like Holmes in the Victorian/Edwardian period. That's part of the charm of the stories. And in the original stories, Watson was married (to a woman). The fact that fans want the current Holmes and Watson to be butt-biddies shows how off-track this show must be.

I also didn't bother with the Robert Downey, Jr. Holmes.
