Kaufman was smarter than that. Revealing a prank to a world that has largely forgotten or never known him would be a complete flop.

If (and I mean *if*) he were still alive, that world that forgot/never knew him would know ALL about him, within short order.

I'm guessing that it would totally dominate the news cycles for at least a week, maybe two. Then many, many 1-3 days worth of news cycles after that as he hits the talk show circuit, reveals new details of things he did while "dead", publishes books he's written, etc.

People would still be talking about the prank several generations down the road.

He was really good with the small details. His fingers wiggle like he’s nervous. He almost comes in at the wrong time. He really was very good.

When Andy Kaufamn was alive, Bob Zmuda would sometimes play the part of “Tony Clifton” in place of Kaufman, when they wanted Kaufman and Clifton to appear on stage at the same time. At the end of the movie “Man On The Moon”, they imply that Andy Kaufman may have faked his death. The final scene takes place a year after his death, with “Tony Clifton” headlining a show serving as a tribute to Kaufman. As Tony Clifton is performing on stage, the camera pans the audience and shows Bob Zmuda (Paul Giamatti) standing there applauding Clifton.
