They are shocked because so many people have been made to believe that abortions only affect a "blob of tissue", and not a living, pre-born baby human.
If the media were anti-abortion instead of pro-abortion, they could turn this around in a few weeks merely by showing the torn shreds of the murdered innocents.
Since the mainstream media is mostly made up of godless heathens who HATE being told anything and that they are allowed to do everything, if they WANT TO, there isn't a CHANCE in H -E - double hockey sticks that they will do an about-face on abortion.
