For now, take care of your family. It was obozocare that put you behind the 8 ball so it is no shame to use it to get out from it.
Just plan that it will go away in 2 years. That gives you time to get an employer that can take care of things correctly.

Considering the likely future, Republican or Democrat, check into offshore insurance and “medical tourism” for major medical. Onshore investigate concierge medical practices. Arrange your tax paying so that you do not get a refund as that is the only way the government can penalize you for not getting Obamacare.
Why two years?
The SC ruling on subsidies will come out in June. That should destroy Obamacare all by itself.
