Appreciate the links! BTW, Happy Christ mass.
There are billions of people on the Internet around the world and hundreds of millions in the U.S. alone. Do we really believe that somewhere there is a "NASA-type" control room where men in dark suits are tracking the online moves of every citizen?
Do we really believe that there are government men cluck-clucking as some citizen purchases a "dogs playing poker" painting on Ebay or checking out transvestite photos at "sissytransvestite.com"?
Fact is, nobody really cares about what we do on the Internet. Unless we are a politician or a terrorist plotting our next attack. Other than that, nobody could possibly care less.
So relax and surf at will.
Consider using Pale Moon for a browser. It’s based on Firefox, but with settings and add-ons in place to prevent tracking.

Also consider DuckDuckGo and/or Ixquick for your search engines.
When I get fed up with ads for stuff, I research “Caribbean Vacations” etc and get ads with excellent vacation scenes.
I have ‘windurs’ auto-update turned off.
That doesn’t seem to matter sometimes, however. I loaded IE one time and found ver 10 on my Win7. I MUST use ver 9, because ver 10 kills some NECESSARY add-ons. So, I had to do the uninstall.
The only things I knowingly allow to auto-update are MS Security Essentials and Windows Media Center TV schedule.
I use it. Works great. I never see tracking after I search for something.
Oh great, hearing that and finding out Santa isn't real has made for a really bad year........
I don’t auto-update anything except security either. It still looks for new updates though.
Thanks for the clarification.

It sees you when you’re sleeping.
It sees when you’re awake.
It knows if you’ve been good or bad.
So be good for goodness’ sake...
I posted a question at a Adobe Dreamweaver (create webpages) forum and my full name showed up. I never added my full name. In Yahoo email I am seeing email addresses I never added showing up that are only in my Thunderbird email contact list. (someone scanning the computer!)
I also notice the ads following you around until you delete all cookies. Google, Microsoft, Facebook etc are working on tracking you without cookies.

How trackable is your browser

They will use the unique ID of your device to track you. Stores already can do so with your cell phone as you walk around a mall. They do not know you are John Smith at first but as soon as you buy something they know ID 123456 is John Smith. It is then sold and resold to anyone and you are now tracked like some animal you see on a tv nature program.

#42 We have seen what the democrats have done to the people in the Tea Party group or to churches using the IRS.
Excellent post.
Post Snowden everyone needs to understand that there is no reasonable expectation of privacy on the Internet—anywhere—ever—regardless of what software or hardware you are using.
Ditto for cell phones.
Congress can pass all the laws they want and organized criminals (governments) and disorganized criminals will get your data if they want it.
Note to NSA: My dog posted this. Her name is Linda. Merry Christmas.
IRS mistakenly penalizes Christine ODonnell a second time, placed levy on bank accounts

Ms. ODonnell also battled a three-year audit of her personal finances that ultimately ended with her repaying $1,100 to the federal government. She said friends and family also were subjected to intrusive audits, though they were cleared. She believes the first round of IRS intrusions were political and malicious, and she has called on Congress to rein in the tax agency.
Use ixquick or startpage as search function, never google. Both offer proxied search results and no IP logging.. At least they thwart our corporate overseers.
