We only used to put ‘footprints’ coming out of the chimney and half-eaten cookies. LOL!
Kids left a note with the milk and cookies one year. Santa responded thanking them for the snack and said Merry Christmas. They saved that note for years.
Foot prints out of the chimney. I had our kids clean the fireplace out so Santa would not get dirty. Hey, it needed cleaning.

When my girls got older they were starting to wonder. So I put some ashes on the carpeting. (I was always fussing over trying to keep the carpet clean).
I spent Christmas morning being just a little bit pissed off at Santa and cleaning the spots out. They still remember that!
