Ernie Banks? Rest In Peace.
A legend.
A magical name.
Obama will be saying who?
Is obamahole wearing his White Sox cap in honor of Mr. Banks?
RIP
A shame that this putrid last season of Cubs baseball was the final one he saw.
Many, many fond memories growing up in the late 60’s watching him play out his career. Only wish I could have seen him play shortstop in his prime. My memories are of him guarding first base.
Rest in Peace, Mr. Cub.

It’s a beautiful day for a ballgame - let’s play two!
RIP Ernie Banks
Ernie Banks was my boyhood hero. He came to the Cubs in 1953, the year I was born. I lived a couple miles from Wrigley Field and saw him play hundreds of times.
Game Called. Across the field of play
the dusk has come, the hour is late.
The fight is done and lost or won,
the player files out through the gate.
The tumult dies, the cheer is hushed,
the stands are bare, the park is still.
But through the night there shines the light,
home beyond the silent hill.
Game Called. Where in the golden light
the bugle rolled the reveille.
The shadows creep where night falls deep,
and taps has called the end of play.
The game is done, the score is in,
the final cheer and jeer have passed.
But in the night, beyond the fight,
the player finds his rest at last.
Game Called. Upon the field of life
the darkness gathers far and wide,
the dream is done, the score is spun
that stands forever in the guide.
Nor victory, nor yet defeat
is chalked against the players name.
But down the roll, the final scroll,
shows only how he played the game.

RIP Ernie!
Oh, but Bathhouse Barry is a Chisox fan...you know, those guys who play at “Kaminsky Park.”
I was too little for the first half of his career, but for the second half of his career, I saw most of the games he played, hundreds in person and hundreds more on Channel 9. Got to meet Ernie Banks a number of times. He and the Cubs and Wrigley Field were a big part of my youth.
It's threads such as these that make me humbly proud to be a part of FReepdom.
RIP Mr. Cub... I thank you for the joy you gave to me when I was a boy. Your love of the game, and your skills on the diamond brought great happiness to all who love the game.
“It is a great day for a ball game... Let’s play two!!!”
+I was at the “Ernie Banks Day” game at Wrigley in 1964.
+I was at Cardwell’s no-hitter - 2nd game of a DH in 1960. Banks hits a 2 run homer in the 6th.
+Box seats on the Cubs dugout 1969 home opener - Banks hits 2 homers.
Ernie Banks
-2 years active in the Army.
-Back in the day - he was a registered Republican.
-Gov. Olgivie(Rep) appointed Ernie a member of the CTA board @ 15k a year. Ernie never attended a meeting.
Ernie - you done good. Time to let someone else play two today.
I waited in line 3 hours years ago to be able to get his autograph.
Eternal peace, Ernie. Thanks for your contribution to the ‘69 Cubs.
I remember him when I was a kid. What a great ballplayer, and a classy guy on and off the field as well. RIP
He’s gonna see a lot of friends and former team mates. The first thing they’ll say is, “Let’s play two!”
I spent almost a whole day with Mr. Banks back in 1980 helping film a fund raising commercial for a free children’s hospital. He was really a very pleasant guy. He will be missed by those who remember him.
A great player, a class act ... one of my all time favorites.
