"That's peculiar to me," Sports Illustrated's MMQB guru Peter King told me. "It's pretty odd that Michael Sam, who was a great guy in camp with the Rams, from all reports was a great guy on the practice squad with the Cowboys, can't get a sniff for the last 10 weeks of the season, and can't get a futures contract now, even though he wants very much to play and he's working out to play." Again, no mention of his playing ability. There is a HUGE difference between being a "great guy" who gets along well with teammates, and being a professional-caliber PLAYER.

A lot of ‘holes get contracts because they can play. Look at Incognito.

Ah yes, the slob peter King: one of the main reasons I dropped SI after years of subscribing. You'd think SI would realize that most of the readers of a sports magazine are not limp wristed liberals that want to read leftist opinions.
But, then again, they are owned by Time, so they may not have a choice.

There is a HUGE difference between being a "great guy" who gets along well with teammates, and being a professional-caliber PLAYER. Yup. That's a "safe, I really don't hate gays, so don't crucify me" statement if I've ever heard one.
I too, for instance, am a great guy, and I suspect that I'd get along pretty well with any team.
I'm also middle aged, overweight, and balding. Not much of an NFL prospect.

Sorry, Peter. I wouldn’t want to sniff Michael Sam, either.
