Scooter was never a ‘’lap cat’’, if you know what I mean but he was loveable in his own way. Most feral male cats will recognize an
alpha male’’ cat or even a male human and do what’s called a ‘’submissive roll over’’, It’s submissive gesture that is part deference and a bonding gesture of trust. He’d do that for every time I came home from work or when I’d been out some where. I’d pet him and nuzzle a little bit and then that was that. It was our ritual for fourteen years. But his diabetes led him to be unpredictable— calm one minute and then suddenly aggressive and growling at us. I don’t think a shelter would have accepted him. He’s at peace now. His pain is over. It’s my broken heart that has to mend.

Joe, thank you so much... ain’t ashamed to say it but looking at your beautiful Timber and thinking of my Scooter I’m busting out crying. Yours is the kindest condolence yet. I wish I knew how to put pictures up on this here computer thing, Scooter was a beautiful cat and tough as nails. Thanks man...got to go get the Kleenex.

It’s hard going to the vet and returning
with an empty collar.
He was 13. A dog the size of a Shepherd is lucky to live that long. It is his last days anyway.
My Shepherd barely missed, by 1 day, being 12 last year. Instead of her birthday, we had to put her down on my mom’s birthday, ending mom’s day of “watching” the very decrepit unmoving dog for us with sadness instead of the cake and gifts we had planned for her.
I am so sorry about your recent loss. I love cats too.
My beloved cat has been gone now, what, 17 years. He is the last cat I had. He was such a sweet friendly gentleman, and I miss him more than any as sure as I loved the Shepherd dog that was paired with him for years. I miss those 2 so much; nothing compared to either of them.
I pray you will hold onto the memories and the good times. God bless in your grief.
I am happy my female GSD is still in good shape. She is supposed to be 15 years old (vet thinks closer to 12) and does not take any medications, walks at a fast pace, and still tries to chase birds.

I’ve put down some friends in my life, and regretted everyone of them.
Finally made the call that if God (who sent them to me) wants them, then He knows where they are to get them back.
I would only have one put to sleep if, and ONLY IF they were screaming in pain.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m sorry for your loss. My wife and I have another younger little male we adopted from a shelter just a few months ago and God bless him he seems to know that Scooter is gone and he never leaves my side now , trying in his own sweet way to comfort me.
My thoughts exactly. This wonderful dog deserved retirement with care not a march to death. Damn it all he had was his life but apparently he was no longer valuable as a K-9 so the death panel took him out.
