I was just reading a story where a Manatee stayed with a dog who’d fallen into the water and had been clinging to a sea wall for hours.

First the moral:

"If at first you don't succeed..."

Now the headline:

Chicago man died after jump into Thornton Quarry

Now the rest of the story:

Seems the guy tried to off himself by driving into the quarry.
For those of you who haven't seen it, the Thornton Quarry is right on I80 in Illinois, just over the border coming West from Indiana. It looks like this:

Seems he tried to do the deed by driving his car over the edge, but he only fell about 40 feet to a service road and survived.

So he got out and jumped the rest of the way.

Unfortunately for him, there are no Sea Lions or Manatees in the Thornton Quarry.

(This is just one county West of the town of Hobart, where a man committed suicide by hitting himself on the head with a hammer - 39 times.)
