CHICO, Calif. - Down Range in Chico has now attracted attention not once, not twice, but three times for its large billboards that sit along Highway 99.
"It's pretty smart, to be honest with you," said Andrea Schauer. Schauer is a Redding resident who makes the Redding to Chico drive once a week for business or to shoot at the north Chico gun range. She is amused by the shops ads.
"I'm always looking at their banners to see if they have a new one up," Schaeur said.
In December, the gun range began an advertising campaign, using the symbol of the season to help bring in business.
For Christmas, Santa held a rifle. For Valentines Day, the billboard read "Chocolate melts, firearms are forever." And now, a bunny holds a rifle with the words "Need an AR? Hop on in" next to it.
"I look at myself as my customer," said owner Steve Dyke. "If I'm driving by and I see the Easter bunny with a sports rifle, I would get a little chuckle out of that and I might want to go inside and check out what's going on inside."
The owners said thousands of cars pass by their range on Highway 99 everyday, so they figured why not capitalize on it.
"The idea behind the bunny is to get people into the story and kind of get rid of that negative connotation people have toward guns," said Jerred Brown, an employee of Down Range and also the man inside the bunny suit.
Brown said the signs have had the effect they want. "It's gotten a great response from the community."
But not everyone likes what they're doing. Owner Dyke tells me that comes with the territory.
"A couple people that have called in or either stopped by and expressed their concerns," Dyke said. "I feel that everybody is entitled to their opinion."
The gun range said each advertisement costs them about $100.
When asked what we can expect to see next, the owner said to check back around Mother's Day.
awesome!
Gun sellers already sell pink guns to women. Hard to say this is unacceptable advertising.
Hell I wish rabbits could defend themselves with an ar15. Give a little back to the hunters.
Very nice
The Reese’s ad that has the bunny humping the peanut butter is more offensive
She broke it!!! ;-)
the 2A is to keep and arm bears, not rabbits.
Maybe you are on the wrong forum or I missed the sarcasm?
Had fresh fried rabbit 2 weeks ago and the reason I know it was fresh is because I broke its neck and dressed it.
Yummy bunny!
I answer adds in the news paper for free rabbit to good home when hunting seasons out
.LOL 🐰🔫
Thanks, but no need to watch. Until I accidentally overturned my boat on our local lake (on my way to register them), I owned several fine Mossberg weapons. Still buy ammo for said weapons for sentimental reasons.
OMG, the DEA was right!

For good reason. If the rabbit that attacked Carter h as d been armed.......
Some people have them as pets. Love em as much as others love their pets.
As someone who’s had many and kept them alive in good health past age 12, their intelligence levels and personalities are as unique and smart as dogs and cats.
