FERGUSON, Mo. — Peering outside the office window of his tire shop, John Zisser grumbles about the pile of burnt rubble that lies on the opposite corner of a busy intersection.
“If you come here to my shop and you see that,” he says, as gestures out the window, “is that going to give you a warm, fuzzy feeling like you want to come back here to do business?”
“Short answer: no, no it’s not,” he says.
Zisser, 55, has owned and operated Zisser’s Tires in this city since 1987. He says the still-visible damage from the November protests that followed a grand jury’s decision not to indict Ferguson officer Darren Wilson for the shooting death of teenager Michael Brown is hurting property owners. His store’s insurance is in the process of being cancelled after it was twice vandalized during the unrest, he says.
“If I sold this place today, I could probably get $300,000 for it, if anyone is crazy enough to buy. Last year, the county said this lot was worth almost a million,” he says. “The value here is all going down. There’s about nine burnt-out buildings this way,” he says, pointing. “And about four more behind me.”

Twice since last summer Mr. Mercat and I have returned from trips where the logically route is through St. Louis and west on I-70. We’ve gone out of our way both times to avoid it so my guess is that this is impacting not only Ferguson but the entire region.
You know it’s funny you mention Bush because around the time those riots were happening I saw a thread on Huffington actually blaming Bush! LOL! In their warped minds this “all went back to Katrina and blacks never got over how Bush stabbed them in the back!” Yo! It’s BUSHs fault! LOL! 100 years from now liberals will still be blaming Bush! IT NEVER ENDS AAAAH!

So Ferguson has signed on the the standard economic plan.
Democrats are like my ex-wife: they make an complete wreck out of everything they touch.
With as many “minorities” there, seems most of Fergie is just Section 8 housing anyway.
The “Riot Corridors” in DC, created by the 1968 MLK Jr riots, have only started coming back in the last 10 years or so. And thats because gentrification (which is despised) is pushing into them.
Looking at a map, Ferguson is eff’d. Royally. There’s simply no chance of new growth from other bordering areas pushing into and through it, and thanks to the rep there’s not much of a chance of it being rebuilt from the middle outward.
Ask ‘em. It’s YT’s fault.
If I lived near there, I'd be leaving the county and looking at Lincoln or Warren Counties.
