No. The North was vastly more populous, industrial, and wealthy. It was an uneven match. The South had better generals though. In WWII the Germans also had better generals. But fortunately for the Allies, Hitler often ignored them. The Germans, like the South in the War Between the States, could never hope to keep up with Allied industrial production.
Lee and his great lieutenants were operating in the East. The Confederate generals out West were horrible except for the few exceptions like Claiborne.
The Unions generals were much better than the Confederates out West; Grant, Sherman, Rosecrans until he lost his nerve at Chickamunga, Thomas, and Sheridan.
Just for the record, Hitler also made many brilliant command decisions. As you wrote, he ignored his generals often, and towards the end that had horrible consequences.
Now, if you want to point fingers at a complete psychopathic dolt, there's Uncle Joe Stalin. He was fortunate in having millions more bodies to burn through to coever his mistakes than did Old Adolf. :)
“In WWII the Germans also had better generals”
I keep hearing that. Likely true in 39 or 40. By 1943, not even close to the ones we had.
