The fiancee of former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez will be called to testify in his murder trial Friday, two people with knowledge of the matter told The Associated Press.

Shayanna Jenkins was granted immunity by the court in February, which means she can be compelled to testify or face time behind bars. There had been a question over whether prosecutors would call Jenkins, who has been in a relationship with Hernandez, 25, since high school and is the mother of his 2-year-old daughter.

For those who want the gov't out of marriage one of the legal benefits granted to marriage is a spouse cannot be forced to testify against the other spouse. In this case since Ms. Jenkins is not married to Aaron Hernandez the prosecutor can force Ms. Jenkins to take the stand. The fiancee can take the Fifth Amendment on the stand but in this case she was granted immunity.

How about everyone just get married FIRST, set up a HOME with a Mommy and a Daddy and THEN have your babies?

I hope you’re kidding, because that is the dumbest argument for marriage I have ever read, LOL! I’m not going into marriage on the off chance my spouse is a creep and I can’t be compelled to testify AGAINST him. If he does something wrong, I’m going to be the FIRST one shouting about it!

Of course, if this jerk HAD married his Baby Momma, then he’d be safe from her testifying against her.

So, what’s the point here? I’m confused, LOL!

There are libertarian types and Social Conservatives, in response to legalization of SSM, who want the gov’t out of marriage. There would no such such thing as a legally married husband and wife. I am pointing out it is not as simple as they make it out to be.

No matter. The testimony today fell kind of flat. No smoking gun. I think Hernandez is guilty as hell but so far in this trial, all the evidence is circumstantial and hearsay.

At least if he's acquitted, he'll still be in jail to await his next trial for the double-murder.
