There was an article in the Reader’s Digest a few months ago about a family that, for their own safety, retreated into the Siberian outback during the Bolshevik revolution. They were there for over 40 years surviving with rudimentary home-made hand tools, etc. They had a son who, when they wanted meat, would simply spend days running down a deer until it was completely exhausted, with no shoes. The thing most missed over those 40-some years, was salt. When they were finally “repatriated” into civilization, the father gobbled down salt, and died within a few days. His body couldn’t handle the shock.
