Discovery Channel did a piece about this woman including DNA analysis of her descendants, it showed up as partially sub saharan Africa. This woman was allegedly kept in a cage by some nobleman and passed around to his “noble” buddies for pleasure. They supposedly captured her in the forest, but who knows how she got there.

When they say “outrun a horse”, that can be deceptive.

For short distances, human sprinters can outrun horses, because they have faster acceleration. In past this was used to win bets. Conversely, even though they have a much slower gait than horses, camels easily overcome them in races, because their gait is much larger.

There was an article in the Reader’s Digest a few months ago about a family that, for their own safety, retreated into the Siberian outback during the Bolshevik revolution. They were there for over 40 years surviving with rudimentary home-made hand tools, etc. They had a son who, when they wanted meat, would simply spend days running down a deer until it was completely exhausted, with no shoes. The thing most missed over those 40-some years, was salt. When they were finally “repatriated” into civilization, the father gobbled down salt, and died within a few days.
