If You Crave an Apple Watch, You Probably Voted for Obama
Yahoo Tech ^ | 4-15-2015 | Dan Tynan

Just over six percent of Americans plan to buy an Apple Watch this year, according to an online poll of 1,829 US adults conducted by Reuters/Ipsos. If accurate, that means Apple could sell as many as 15 million Watches this year, or more than double the total number of smartwatches sold by all manufacturers in 2014.

Who are these Watch watchers? Reuter’s interactive polling tool offers an in-depth and occasionally surprising look at the demographics.

According to this poll, Apple Watch fans are democratic leaning and college educated, largely male, but not necessarily Caucasian. They own their own homes and make a decent income. They’re more likely to be east coast elitists than left coast liberals, but they still attend church. And many of them don’t already own an iPhone.

In fact, if you crave an Apple Watch….

You’re probably a man

Men who wanted the Watch outnumbered women by a factor of nearly three to one. Despite Apple’s emphasis on fashionable design, it appears the Watch is still mostly a guy thing.

You’re young

Just over 11 percent of wannabe Watch owners are under the age of 39; fewer than 2 percent are over 50. The biggest chunk of Watch fans are between the ages of 30 and 39; some 13 percent plan to enter middle age with an Apple Watch on their wrists.

You’re well off

Nearly 9 percent of people who make $75K or more yearn for an Apple Watch, or twice as many as less affluent Americans. Oddly, people who earn between $75K and $100K are slightly more likely to buy one than those with incomes north of $100K. Perhaps those people already sport a gaudy overpriced timepiece on their wrists.

You’re educated

Four out of ten people surveyed had finished college or graduate school, and a solid 10 percent of them said yes to the Watch. Less than 5 percent of those who never got past high school will be shopping for one.

You probably voted for Obama

It appears our nation is as divided about its gadgets as it is about health care, immigration, and gay rights. One out of 10 survey respondents who voted for Obama in 2012 plan to pull the lever for an Apple Watch; fewer than one out of 20 Romney supporters are equally inspired.

But you’re probably not Caucasian

Only 4 percent of white respondents said they plan to buy an Apple Watch, versus nearly 11 percent of minorities.

You’re more likely to live in the northeast

Surprisingly, fewer than 3 percent of residents in the Far West say they intend to get a Watch. That’s about a third the number of people living in the Mid-Atlantic and New England, where roughly 9 percent say they’ll buy.

You’ve never been married

Single people who’ve never married are 50 percent more likely than married couples to buy an Apple Watch, and about three times more enthusiastic about it than those who are divorced or separated. Apparently you can buy a Watch or pay alimony, but you can’t do both.

You’re religious

More than 75 percent of people surveyed identified themselves as followers of a major world religion, and 7 percent of them plan to reap their Apple rewards on earth, not in heaven. Less than 4 percent of nonbelievers have any interest.

You may not already own a iPhone

Only one out of six iPhone owners in the survey say they’ll get the watch; one out of 12 non-iPhone owners said they’d consider switching smartphone allegiances to get one.

The reason? Social status. Some 42 percent agreed there is a “cool factor” associated with owning the watch. Of course, without an iPhone, the Apple Watch is an expensive and largely useless trinket. But to some, coolness is reason enough.

The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.6 percent.

On Free Republic, the so-called “FUD Packers” (as you call them) are those APPLE-HATER TROLLS that do their droppings here ... LOL ...

That is what I meant. However, I think they are closet types. They protest and project too much.

A piece of hardware is just a piece of hardware. FUD Packers place too much importance on others hardware. Suspicious.

I pulled some quotes out and bulleted them on a piece of paper. Gave it to people to read at a local bar on wing night post masters practice. Everyone said the same thing. Closet FUD Packers. For real.

I find the Packer phenomena a bit confusing. After thinking about it, yeah they are closet Packers.

Give it a shot. Pull out quotes from the "usual suspects" and print them out. Put it aside for a bit and read them. Out of thread and alone, you will be laughing.

I won’t give money, as I have stated several years ago to a gay supporting web site, which FR clearly is, because of sword maker

I would bet that I and the other 700 members of the Apple/Mac ping list more than make up for your not donating to FreeRepublic. Sorry you are so offended that we like our computers, phones, and other equipment. Do you use a Windows Computer, an Google licensed Android cellular phone? Both of those companies have been financially backing the homosexual legislative agenda for years.

Do you use Yelp? Watch NASCAR? Pro Basketball? What computer DO you use? Does it have an Intel processor in it? Have you shopped at Walmart? Macy's? Those companies came out against the Indiana Restoration of Religious Freedom Act and signed the letter against it, just as Apple CEO Tim Cook did. Are you just as offended at them?

Did you know that Apple Inc., as a company did not back or sign that letter nor did its Board of Directors validate CEO Tim Cook's position. They MIGHT do so, but they have not as of this date. Apple Inc. is not on the list. . . although Apple CEO Tim Cook, as an individual, is.

Tim Cook has specifically said on Apple's behalf only that Apple's policy is that it does not discriminate against anyone.

Do you take Evista, Quinadine, Cymbalta, Prozac, Symbyax, Zyprexa, Forteo, Adcica, Effient, Glucagon, Glyxambi, Humalog, Humalin, Jardiance, Jentadueto, Jentadueto, Tradjenta, Trulicity, Humatrope, Axiron, Cialis, Amyvid, Strattera,ALimta, Cyramza, Erbitux, Gemzar? Plus a host of over-the-counter products. If you are one of your loved one’s takes any of these prescription drugs, you have a problem, because Eli Lilly has been supporting the homosexual legislative agenda far longer than Apple. I sincerely hope your life does not depend on one of those prescription drugs.

Do you wear Levi Jeans? Same issue for Levi Strauss & Co.

Ever buy or sell anything on eBay? Used PayPal? Twitter? Amazon? Enjoyed a book by Stephen King? Looked up your home’s value on Zillow? Does your computer, phone, or Router have any parts made by Cisco? Do you use Evernote? Google/Android?

The CEO's or founders of those organizations also signed the same letter that Apple CEO Tim Cook signed.

I assure you, that neither I nor FreeRepublic is in any way a supporter of the Gay agenda. YOU have conjured up that connection in your own warped sick mind. Apple users are not because of their appreciation for a computer, phone, iPod, iPad, or a watch, tainted by homosexuality by an inanimate object. . . but you are tainted by your completely irrational hatred and fear.

You BEAR FALSE WITNESS by your claims.

You insult me, every Apple user on FreeRepublic, and Jim and John Robinson and everything he stands for with guilt by a very tenuous association!

I feel extremely sorry for you.

Ok everybody settle down so this thread can stay up.
It was pulled for a short time and about 20% of the posts had to be removed for flaming, flame baiting, obscenity and personal attacks.

To any posters who are trying to get the thread pulled with your remarks, back off.

Now a new Rolex...

A new Rolex would be of interest solely for its resale value, given that:

In your hatred of anything allegedly said negatively of your icons, you group me in for mass hate.

Too bad you are too stupid to read what I wrote:

Go back and find just what the spittle flecked post was responding to in post #5!

Then come back and call me a hater for pointing out he was raging at nothing that had been posted!

It does when you post that and claim it is untrue. . . when it is true.

A chart of tablet activations in the general market doesn't translate to what's happening in enterprise IT.

I work there. It isn't happening.

In the mean time, a couple of etf’s will probably do very well thanks to Apple. I own two of the ETFs cited, DGRW and TDIV:

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/dividend-etfs-wait-apple-payout-170036265.html

The second quarter, May in particular, is often chock full of dividend increases, but investors can also expect some payout hikes from big-name companies before the end of this month.

That includes Apple (AAPL), which though new to the dividend game, is the largest dividend payer in the S&P 500. Apple reinstituted its dividend in the third quarter of 2012 after a 17-year hiatus. Since reintroducing the payout at 37.8 cents per share per quarter, Apple’s dividend has grown at an impressive clip to 47 cents a share per quarter. Market observer are forecasting more dividend growth from Apple and expect that growth to arrive as soon as Thursday when the iPhone maker reports earnings. [Dividend ETFs Lag in Q1]

Markit expects Apple’s quarterly dividend to rise 8.5% to 51 cents a share, reports Amey Stone for Barron’s. “This is in line with its current capital allocation program of returning $130 billion to investors through 2015. Of this, the company has returned $103 billion to investors, including $73 billion in share repurchases with four quarters remaining to its completion,” according to a Markit note posted by Barron’s.

Apple is the world’s largest company by market value, so it is not surprising that the stock is a top 10 holding in over 100 exchange traded funds. What may be a surprise to some income investors is that Apple is a marquee holding in several well-known dividend ETFs. The surprise comes by way of Apple not yet possessing a lengthy dividend increase streak, a cornerstone of the weighting methodology behind some of the largest U.S. dividend funds.

Outside readers can see I do more than pander to sell Gaypple.

read my posting history, and then read YOURs and swordswallowers. One in the same. I bet if an IP check was done, it would verify my thoughts.

There are only two things you and he post about, how great gayplle is, and how you are a victim. FR used to stand up against trolls who laid on the ground rolling around claiming they were victims.

now, they pander to you

apple must be dropping a mighty chunk of change into the coffers, so there is no need for the rest of us to pony up

go lay on the ground and scream about what a victim you are, hit the abuse button over and over, because this is NOT the FR that I once knew, it appears it is now the “coddling gay wad, getting money from advertiser” Republic.

I am disgusted with Jim R. and his staff.

Booty away.
