Riviera Casino Closes Doors After 60 Years on Vegas Strip
AP ^ | May 4, 2015 | KIMBERLY PIERCEALL

If the ghosts of Frank Sinatra and Liberace were still hanging around the Riviera Hotel and Casino on Monday morning, they wouldn't have found a seat at the bar.

Crowds squeezed onto barstools and milled about the casino floor saying goodbye to "The Riv," a classic that spent 60 years on the Las Vegas Strip and closed at noon.

It's an age reached by few properties along the four-mile stretch of hulking casino resorts mimicking other worldly landmarks or beckoning passers-by with all their wants in one place that have replaced Sin City's recent past.

Sigh. Another icon from ‘Ocean’s 11’ gone. The real Ocean’s 11 from 1960.

The Riviera was Old School Vegas. A shootout scene from 3000 miles to Graceland filmed at the Riviera.

OLD Vegas You Say?

In the New Vegas, I am sure someone will try to restore it's glory.....

Mr. House's Securitron army took control of Hoover Dam and The Strip, pushing both the Legion and the exhausted NCR out of New Vegas. Mr. House continued to run New Vegas his way, a despotic vision of pre-War glory. The streets were orderly, efficient, cold. New Vegas continued to be the sole place in the wasteland where fortunes were won and lost in the blink of an eye.

Might as well. How many casinos follow suit due to the drought? LV’s water source is Lk. Mead which is drying up.

I always make it a point to physically beat him to death. I never even give him the chance to talk. Just in the door running and it’s on like Donkey Kong ;)

My Courier followed him upstairs, sneaked his Pistol and when he thought she was going to sleep with him I whipped it out and splattered the walls with his gore. ;)

I have a mod with an android follower. I let her kill him once. One smack, one kill. Boring...but no less satisfying ;)

The game ignores her presence up there so you can also have her bring in flame throwers, then take and use them. Any big weaponry. Which is also satisfying.

Orbital strike...gotta try that...

Oooh well...back to the Riv. It had sort of a sleazy vibe with a touch of old Vegas Charm. I used to love walking in there and the Stardust just to imagine what it was like there in the days before the corporate suits showed up.

It has been since the late 90s for me. I lived in Vegas a while but was never a casino/gambler. Always preferred toys with engines and it was too easy to lose the cash. Glitter gulch was fun to walk through though. Especially before the cleanup. Dangerous at times but fun.

Ah to be young again...

They are building a huge expansion of the convention center on the site.

Riviera had become a terrible dump.

I won $35.00 at the World Archery Festival there in 2005.
Entry fee was about $160.00 for Flight.

Still have a copy of the check...It was the finest $160.00 I ever spent. (I was flinging arrows in 1969, recurve - take down, watching the Allen Compound come around the corner

While I lived there for over 12 years the bartenders asked me if I was playing? My response,

“NO! BUYING YOUR DRINKS WILL SAVE YOU MONEY”
They all agreed.

Las Vegas Archers Club, miss it dearly.

RIP RIV
ALAN
