Where can I get a bird identified by sound? I heard a strange sounding bird a few nights ago, but never did get to see it.

A bird at *night* might be an owl.

Probably a Whippoorwill. I live in Iowa across from Nebraska and that’s what sings at night.

Cornell Ornithology Lab has a website with recorded sounds of LOTS of different species of birds that you can play back to ID a bird. If you live where there are mockingbirds, THAT might be your night-singing birds. Males sing at night as well as during the day.

There is a web site I used to ID a very annoying bird call - unfortunately I did not book mark it. Do a google search and you should be able to find it.
