LOS FELIZ, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A man attempting to flag Los Angeles police officers down with his arm wrapped in a towel was shot in the head Friday in Los Feliz.
The man was shot at about 6:35 p.m. on Los Feliz Boulevard and Tica Drive. He was allegedly raising his arm wrapped in a towel, possibly holding a gun.
"The officer exited the vehicle and quickly said, 'Drop the gun, drop the gun,'" LAPD Lt. John Jenal said.
Moments later, the officer opened fire.
It was unclear if the man had a gun, but the officers believed the man had a gun, Jenal said.
The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
As part of the investigation, Los Feliz Boulevard was expected to be shut down from Griffith Park Boulevard to Hillhurst Avenue until Saturday morning.
The man should have had a dog to take the bullet for him.
I hope there’s more to this story...
cops are being trained as if they are combat soldiers being prepared for a warzone. this training is the problem. nobody is ever held accountable when this training costs an innocent citizen or their pet its life and we’ve now had 2 decades of this training, turning the police into little more than an occupying army.
if you call the police, you do so at your own risk. the days of Andy Griffith and Barney Fife are long gone. today’s police are hammers and to them, everyone else looks like a nail.
Check that, his head was wrapped in a towel and they shot him in the arm.
Badaboom, sheesh.
Oh, for the days of Sheriff Andy.
LOL, that’ll learn him.
Gotta hand it to the officer, for using his head and fingering the guy for a nasty wrap...
Right.
Is it still "Unclear"?
Did they just drive away and leave him there without checking?
Yep. Very unfortunate the our country’s “community organizers” are using the issue to convince blacks that they’re being disproportionately shot by whites, rather than the truth that is the other way around.
But for the canines and humans of the US, we really ought to rein in the out-of-control, militarized police forces across this country. Too many of the people attracted to the job in the current environment are the last people we should have in the position.
Unarmed?
Could swear I read he was waving an arm wrapped in a towel.
Maybe they ripped his arms out if the sockets, disarming him?
Simply putting cops into retirement after they pick of an innocent or two isn’t good enough—there are always more cops.
We’ve got to go to the top, with the ones responsible for the training as well. And, of course, there should be the same sort of prison time for illegal cop actions that would lead to prison time for the rest of us.
That has nothing to do with the facts of this case...
That’s what I’m waiting for - facts, not initial reports.
Initial, erroneous, and blatantly fallacious reports are what caused the mess is Ferguson.
I couldn’t see his hand, ipso facto he must have been holding a gun in it.
Recall the recent post where the drugstore employee had a woman come in with her hand in a bag claiming she had a gun? And the resulting debate as to whether he should have shot her before he actually saw a gun? Yeah, pretty much everyone acknowledged that he would have been crucified by the courts.
This clearly demonstrates a very dangerous double standard. And it also shows who are the rulers and who are the ruled.
If only he had used a washcloth they might have just tazed him.
Good grief! It almost made sense the other way.
Just reinforces what I have been saying for the last ten years: Never call the cops. No good can come of it.
Been going on for a long time. The teenage son of a family I knew in Marina del Rey in the 1970s heard a gunshot outside and called the police. When the cops arrived at their door, they had their guns pulled already, and might easily have shot the boy who called for their help had his mom not rushed to his rescue.
Cops need to understand how vulnerable they really are.Millions of citizens have operated in a war zone, the cops do not want to get taken to school by them.
