From a Darwinistic perspective, it makes no sense.
The real Darwinistic perspective to me is monkey see, monkey do. That works whether you are watching and learning to tie your shoes, putting on lipstick or strapping on a sex toy.
And most learn to do sexual things without knowing they are sexual when their brains are little more than mush.
