Can't even imagine how tough it must be to see the dark side of humans...day after day.
Yes, it’s a tough job to be sure.
I heard a former NYC cop interviewed on the NPR show “Fresh Air”, he was touting his book. I’m sorry that I can’t remember either his name of the title of the book, but you might be able to google around or maybe even find it on the NPR site.
He had some crazy stories, but one that was very sad was about being called to the site of a young woman who had died (I think of a drug overdose) in the summer, she’d been dead for a couple of days. Her mother had missed her and was there at the scene. The mother was DETERMINED to go in and see the daughter’s body, but this cop (who was really just a rookie if I’m remembering this right) was just as DETERMINED that she was NOT GOING TO DO THAT.
He was figuring he’d arrest the mom, even, but it did not get to that point.
A very difficult job, and not even just the dangerous parts. I think any job where you are really dealing with people and their problems is hard.
