55 Gallons of Lube? Customers Complain That Amazon #PrimeDay Sales Are Terrible
The Hollywood Reporter ^ | July 15, 2015 | Staff

Amazon's #PrimeDay launched on Wednesday as the company bragged the sales would be even better than Black Friday's.

However, Amazon users were not impressed with the sales the e-commerce site offered, and many users took to Twitter to express their displeasure. #PrimeDayFail and #PrimeDay both trended as the complaints poured in.

"Either I'm missing something or the @amazon prime sale is a joke. Everything I want is full price. #PrimeDayFail," said one user. "This #PrimeDay sucks ... its like a digital garage sale," said another.

One of the reason I like shopping on Amazon is to avoid the sale/discount/clearance bull squeeze that is the retail shopping experience today.

I suspect PrimeDay was mostly a big clearance sale in disguise. They put up a handful of laptops (for example) as loss leaders to get people to see the crap (55 gallon drum of Passion Lube) they wanted to liquidate.

Amazon’s policy is to drive all profits back into business expansion, hence no profits per se yet relentless buying of other companies and expansion of new service lines.

It was great if they were discount-selling what you wanted.
I ordered a small gun safe for the car, but no discount. Looked around other sales for a few minutes, was startled to see a tablet computer for $40 - impressive that it’s possible but nothing I’d actually want to use - but nothing else of real interest. Checked my wish list twice, but nothing on sale.

Meh.

Well they don’t technically turn a profit because it all goes back into the business. But they make enough money to buy a company every couple of weeks. And not little companies, E-Bay companies. So no it’s not really true. They make tons of money, they just don’t let it sit around in the bank.

Have you read the comments? They are a hoot! The first one is ‘supposedly’ from Mr. Sulu of Star Trek (George Takei).

55 Gallons of Lube?

Well maybe there's a market for that in San Francisco.

I know several railroaders that would gladly buy 55 gallon drums of lube oil at a fraction of the $910.25 price tag.

I checked out their website yesterday.

It looked like one of those ‘auction’ websites. The ‘good’ items had already sold out. I didn’t want to spend hours clicking through their upcoming bid items.

Walmart’s website wasn’t much better. They had a few deals, if they were items a person wanted. Otherwise, most items were at their regular price.

==

One thing I have notice with Amazon Prime for a couple of years — many of the items that qualify for AP shipping are priced higher than the same items on other websites. That causes me to wonder what the ‘draw’ is to have AP — other than their streaming video offerings.

==

Both Amazon and Walmart websites had some glitches yesterday, too.

I like this one:

“As UPS discretely unloaded my 55 gallon drum, the driver accidentally spilled it into my driveway. Any amount of cars can now fit into the garage.”

I see those words and I think Shell Rotella T, or Chevron Delo 100 (for old fashioned 2 stroke Detroits) and Delo 400 for Caterpillar.

Don't put Delo 100 in a gasoline engine though. Delo 400 on the other hand is a-ok. Turbo rated, but there are likely better lube oils available nowadays, even in Chevron's lineup, depending upon what one is needing to, or else trying to accomplish.

One widely used in over-the-road trucks

Extended oil change interval...

We bought some COQ10, a double-edged razor and stand, a 4 blade razor for traveling, a Roomba and some allergy meds.

Good deals.
