How about an original 29 Ford. Hey, I agree with you about gasoline. I cut my teeth on that same 29 Ford. Heck, distributor and coil were some of the first words that I learned. Seriously.

I am also an electrical and computer guy. So it is an interest...

Hey, perfect timing and a question for you about gasoline engines: the old Model As have a vapor lock issue. Has to do with the ethanol in the gasoline and the fact that the car has no fuel pump. All gravity feed. Being at high altitude doesn't help. We live in Colorado.

I have tried everything including wrapping the fuel line and putting a vein in front of the carb. Both help but don't solve the problem.

I have considered changing the jets since the ethanol seems to change the timing. The car has a spark advance lever and I have played with that. Plus I have even added diesel to the gasoline. However, I have to run the car very rich in order to keep it from stalling. After it gets warm, of course.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

More info....

It appears that the vapor lock is happening in the carb. Can hear it. The exhaust manifold runs right in front of the carb inlet. Ford probably designed it that way for cold morning starts but it doesn't work well for warm days and E10 gasoline.

BTW, it runs beautifully on clear gas which we can longer buy here in Colorado. Damn environmentalists!

Plus you can put it in stealth mode. No engine sounds at all. Pretty cool!

Hybrids I like, they make sense. Electrics mean no long distance travel. Smart car??? What were the Germans thinking? Maybe “Iff zee rhest off Europa tinks zis ist gut ve vill vin next time.”

Our son has a VW TDI.
Very nice for driving, over 65 mph it does better mpg.

But look at the cost of the DSG trans oil change!!!

Dealer wants $800+!!! Every 40,000 miles!!

He should have bought a stick shift.

We will buy the tools and DIY, not rocket science, still $100 for the fluid.

That is even uglier. I have an Audi A3 TDI sport-back that gets better mileage than the Prius and is a whole lot better looking.

As noted the maintenance cost are way less.
Most cabs in our are area now Priis, the gas savings is good but the maintenance makes it better.

Was it painful?
If it does not go away in 24 hours, see a physician.

You just know the nutters want USA gas prices to equal or exceed Europe.

I do hope they stay down but doubt it.

Excellent points. Hybrids are compelling. Electrics, no way.

What makes me chuckle is how owners of electric cars brag about how their cars don't pollute and that the energy to power them is free. Lol. Clearly they have been drinking too much of the coolaid.

The manual is very thick all /English too!
Have not found stealth mode?
But it does have EV mode , electric vehicle mode; close enough?

In reverse it has a beeper, my wife dislikes that ‘feature’!
