What would be a master stroke right now would be a well orchestrated advertising campaign for a Linux Windows alternative. So far it has relied on a passive, word of mouth campaign, but if it came through with a big splash, it would hit Microsoft at its weakest point.
A big part of it would be short, simple, online videos to show people how to use it.
The trick is to find out what people actually do with their Windows system. Not what they *can* do, but the most common things they actually do.
I run Exchange on a bunch of them :).
Here are the most common things I have done for years almost in my sleep, with no problem; that I can not do in my Windows 10 install.
1. Find the equivalent of File/Print
2. Find the equivalent of Print/Preview.
3. Check if I can use any of my printers.
4. Save a web page, say a "page" of this thread, to my hard drive.
5. Save a PDF.
6. Use my printers/scanners.
7. I haven't had the patience to find and try Windows explorer.
8. I haven't found a web browser That is familiar (Internet Explorer 11?)
I short I converted my Windows 7 Pro desktop into an imitation desktop computer.
Not a happy camper.
