I don’t know enough about .410 shells. Can you get .410’s with buckshot?
That would explain a lot though!
” I removed my left , cowboy booted foot from the peg and hit her square in the head and rolled her. For quite a while after that she barked at me from her front porch till I moved later that year. “
Wow. I just had a flashback to being about 10 years old walking our German Shepherd past a house that had a nasty white poodle that was always dirt stained. It would charge my dog yapping and growing. It took all I had to hold my dog back on the leash.
One day our dog got loose and bee-lined for the poodle and shook it like a rag doll and tore it up.
After it healed it never left it’s front porch when the dog and I walked by.
I know very little about firearms, tbh, other than I believe we should be able to own em. That’s a question for someone more knowledgeable than me.
I lived many years in a very rural area, and never once saw that - not even during hunting season.
Perhaps if the sheriff had asked a few pertinent questions, like, why the shotgun? Where were you headed? You know, things like that. It would have added a degree of fullness to a story that lacks some depth. And as a bonus, would eliminate some speculation, as noted earlier, that the guy was maybe trolling for dogs.
Maybe the biker was afflicted with a manner of PTSD himself, whether war related or not.
In any event, my own personal view is that the Vet, and his deceased companion, deserve our sympathy, not condemnation.
But I guess that's just me.
