We keep being reminded from the pulpit that Jesuus, Mary and Joseph were once refugees in a strange land. Not saying that that is pertinent to today’s problem. The Church teaching from Rome does say that we have a right to our borders — at least it did under JPII and Benedict. But, individual pastors and Bishops seem to be ignoring that.

I’ll read this again when I have more time. Thank you for the detailed response and effort though.

Upon first read it seems that there is a rogue element that is not following the catechism or don’t know it or don’t care to know it. The position the take against the catechism is either willful or ignorant.

The key or operative to this statement that you make is LOGIC: “The catechism states logically that illegal immigration offends the host nation depleting its resources for itself it’s lawful citizens and future legal immigration for them as well as for future legitimate refugees”

A person has to think and be capable of objective thought to ever successfully apply LOGIC. I also wonder if there are priests that are intentionally misleading the issue? NAAAAW. / s.

“do not lump us all into one category...”

Well I do, because you continue to belong to and support a religious organization that chooses to violate this country’s immigration laws. I gave up the church to which I belonged ( not Catholic) because of it’s stance on supporting illegal immigration.

No mention about the driver who caused the accident;

...

You should follow up with the person who wrote the article.

Because drunk drivers or those holding drugs often try to switch seats with a passenger after something like this or even after they get flashed down to be pulled over. Cops see it all the time. I don’t see anything to suggest that happened here.

...

The writer of the article could have been clearer, but the impression I get is that witnesses told police that someone else was driving her car.

Priests are the target of much temptation because they are leaders. If you look at it like its a battle then it becomes obvious. Whe you read at John Paul II or humanae vitae, and that’s for anyone, it’s just logic and is based strictly on biblical teaching, or Cardinal Burke, George weigel or father g Rutler you know what is going on.

The USCCB right now is being led on this by Garcia and Gomez of San Antonio and LA And who both are immigrants who should not be speaking as leaders to our government on these matters yet the bishops conference is FOLLOWING them on this

The likely mean well but these laws are there for a reason ditto the catechism

“... Her truck spun around and wound up on the median, with the driver’s door facing the eastbound traffic lanes.”

She wanted to exit her truck onto the median, and not out into traffic. Makes sense to me.

Just because she was hit on the passenger side doesn’t mean the passenger door area was damaged.

I hope the Good Samaritan sees the publicity, comes forward, and supports this lady’s story. Sheesh, what a nightmare to go through, as if the accident wasn’t bad enough.

"She wanted to exit her truck onto the median, and not out into traffic. Makes sense to me."

The image I have is that when her truck came to rest on the median, it was oriented N/S, with the doors oriented E/W. It wouldn't matter which she door she exited, she would still be on the median, relatively safe to either E/B or W/B traffic. In either case, it would be likely that traffic in either direction would be slowed, depending on the location of the damage car, and the number of people who slowed to get a look at the damaged vehicles.

The article said she was struggling to open the passenger door. This suggests that it was damaged. If so, why not just exit the drivers door?

Your ‘image’ is not what the article said.

“...with the driver’s door facing the eastbound traffic lanes.

The article just said the truck wound up on the median, not how far onto the median. She could have been right on the edge of median, with her door opening right into traffic.

Would you get out right into traffic?

Sure sounds like that’s what she was afraid of. Remember she’s 75.

Most likely because she felt safest exiting via the passenger door. Given that she was injured and shaken she did what made the best sense to her at the time.

"Your ‘image’ is not what the article said. “...with the driver’s door facing the eastbound traffic lanes."

"Her truck spun around and wound up on the median, with the driver's door facing the eastbound traffic lanes."

What I wrote: The image I have is that when her truck came to rest on the median, it was oriented N/S, with the doors oriented E/W.

Translated for you: When the truck came to rest, it's front faced north, and the drivers door faced west - towards E/B traffic. In other words - "facing the east bound traffic lanes." Like the article said!

"The article just said the truck wound up on the median, not how far onto the median. She could have been right on the edge of median, with her door opening right into traffic."

"Would you get out right into traffic?"

If the vehicle was partially on the median, with the doors in the active traffic lane, she would be getting right into traffic no matter which door she opened.

"Most likely because she felt safest exiting via the passenger door. Given that she was injured and shaken she did what made the best sense to her at the time."

These two sentences suggest that possibility.

"Her truck spun around and wound up on the median, with the driver's door facing the eastbound traffic lanes. So she struggled to get out the passenger side door instead.

Of course, another explanation is that the witnesses saw someone else driving, and she was the passenger.

Without being able to look at the report, and being able to read the witness statements, we are still left with one persons account of the incident.

I wonder though, if the actual report contains a statement by one or more witnesses that might go like this:

I was in a vehicle at, or standing on the corner of, Wisconsin Ave. and N. 35th St. I head a loud crash and I saw that a car and a pickup had collided. I saw that the pickup ended up in the median. A man got out of the drivers side of the pickup and he went around to help out the woman passenger. They both went to the bus stop but the man left.
