USSR/Russia lost its superpower status when it fell apart.

If you haven't heard, they are on their way to making a major comeback. Once they grab control of various portions of the Middle East they will no doubt take a nice cut of the oil profits. That plus, from their pals in Iran, thanks to the Obama-Putin Iran deal, they will surely also get a nice chunk of that $100+ billion dollars that will become available.
