For most Americans, heading to the hills only means that while zombies won’t kill you, a thousand other things will, primarily the inability to provide for yourself food and shelter.

Yes I tend to agree. As my friend Ed always says “when the ice storm comes you either be at the bottom of the hill or you be at the top of the hill.”

You already need to be outta Dodge before the SHTF.

Some seem to think that they can just “bug out” and go live in the woods. As one Freeper told me, “It ain’t rocket science”. No it’s not but how many really know how to go and live in the woods for extended periods? I have seen youtube video about how easy it is, showing someone shooting a few squirrels for supper. How long do they think the squirrel population will last? How long do they think even the deer population will last? Some even seem to think they can live on wild plants. Maybe so but I don’t think most realize how difficult it is to survive on purely plant sources for food even if you have a supermarket next door and plenty of money. The best chance would probably be where there are a lot of feral hogs that can be trapped but it is not all that easy to go out and kill wild hogs and the hogs can have you for supper if you don’t know what you’re doing. Anyone can make it for a couple of days but it takes some real knowledge and ability to survive for months in the wild. For me shelter would be less of a problem than finding plenty of food and clean water. I can build a survival shelter with what can be found lying around in the woods. I learned that as a boy.

And the indigenous hillbillies.

You can bet we will not be amused by the arrival of thousands of outlanders.

:D
