When we see absurd things: like Obama and Hollande, I think it is ok to point out their absurdity.

I agree with you there. I don't find that distracting. It's actually part of the story.

What I do find distracting and unhelpful are the attempts at humor. Comments such as: "Oh, those Amish!", "Has the French Army surrendered yet?", etc.

Of course, all of this is just my opinion. And as I noted before, I mean it to apply to serious and breaking news only.

Yes. There are some people who don’t understand when a joke has lived it’s life and deserves to die.

I’m a little disappointed at the sparse use of Cheee Eating Surrender Monkeys last night. That never gets old.
