I lived in Albuquerque for 5 years and regret that I never made it to Chaco Canyon.

Don't feel too bad. I've been here over 10 years, and I just made my visit last month.

Canyon de Chelly? A beautiful area. Spider Rock was inspirational for a 10 year old kid. :)

A picture from the 1930s. Does that mean the wall is no longer there?

" Blam mentions that blood studies have been done. Does this include modern DNA comparisons between modern Zunis and modern Japanese or Ainu?"

Apparently nothing unexpected...so far.

Ancestral Puebloan mtDNA in Context of the Greater Southwest

"The Tommy and Mine Canyon sites fall on opposite sides of the F1 coordinate, reflecting their different frequencies of haplogroups A and B. The Tommy Site forms a cluster with the Jemez, Fremont, and Zuni, and Carlyle's Anasazi data, reflecting these populations' high frequency of haplogroup B, typical of Southwestern populations. "

I believe we stopped in Cuba for lunch and had some great Mexican food.

A picture from the 1930s. Does that mean the wall is no longer there?

The wall pictured was taken from the northwest corner aiming southeast. The side of the wall pictured faces a huge cliff face, and at some points, the cliff has fallen down on the structure (on the NE side).

Look in the photo in post 8, and the wall at the back of the space is the same wall pictured in post 1, but from the other (south) side. Some of the wall has fallen down since the 1930s, but much has been preserved. The cliff face directly behind the structure (post 8 again) is where much of the stone came from. If you type in Chaco Culture Historical Monument in google maps, and zoom in on the Pueblo Bonito, you can get a much better idea of what's still standing. Some amazing pictures are out there of the site doing an image search.

More then likely. There was some cannibalism recorded in Europe when there were massive harvest failures.

People will do many things when they are hungry.

I wonder what happened to the guy who suggested that the buildings be built near the trees?

He lost his job to the same guy who built stone pyramids in the middle of a sandy desert..........
