Is shopping on Christmas Day the next retail push?

It was once anathema to think of shopping on Thanksgiving Day, but now that's become almost commonplace with the likes of Walmart (WMT) and Macy's (M) opening their doors on the holiday.

What's next? Christmas Day? Actually, yes, according to consulting company LoyaltyOne.

"It's inevitable," said LoyaltyOne managing partner Dennis Armbruster, who predicts that retailers will start opening on Christmas Day within three years. "What Christmas means to some is just changing, and a lot of families don't necessarily celebrate on Christmas Day because of extended family dynamics. Consumers are also highly used to getting what they want, when they want it."

While no major retailers currently open their doors on Christmas Day, there has been slight change in the retail environment over the past few decades given that some grocery stores and convenience stores are now often open for limited hours on the holiday. That shift, and the proliferation of Black Friday sales starting on Thanksgiving, may make consumers more receptive to the idea.

Over the years I've found it quite remarkable to take an early drive through most any town on Christmas Day and nothing is open; no grocery stores, no gas stations, no restaurants.....Nada.

It's eerie and at the same time pleasing.

Times change.

Sundays used to be like that, with just small stores opening at noon.

I hope to sometime again live in a place that places people and relationships before anything else.

These brick and mortar retailers are desperate.

I’ve spent over a thousand bucks on Christmas gifts so far this month. And my retailer is open 24/7. If I so chose - I can shop Christmas day as well.

Amazon. They never close. I never have to waiting in long shopping lines.

Why shop anywhere else?

It won’t matter. Retail sales are down, down, down and they cannot invent any more days in a year than 365.

The biblical calendar has December 25 this year as the 13th day of His 10th month. The 5th Day of His Work Week.
A work day according to the calendar template He taught Israel.

Brings to mind Daniel 7:25 and Revelation 13.

And what an eye opening Revelation it is if one is blessed with eyes to see!

With one Bible verse, ezekiel 46:1, Babylon can fall in one’s life.

Why not?

They push for shopping on the Day of our gaining our Independence from England.

They push for shopping on the Day of Dead Military.

They push for shopping on the Day of Living Military Veterans.

I had a job in high school working in a local department store in a small town.

Every Christmas morning there would be several anxious calls from people needing to come to the store and buy presents.

They never forgot the accommodating owner of the store or those of us he called in to help on Christmas morning.

I can understand their drive thru pharmacy window being open in the event someone needs a prescription filled on an emergency basis but other than that IMO everything everywhere should be closed. The only people that should be required to work are those providing emergency services.
