Angry single men stage anti-Christmas rally in Tokyo

TOKYO (AFP) -

Anti-Christmas protesters calling themselves "Losers with Women" marched through Tokyo's streets Saturday, bashing the upcoming holiday as a capitalist ploy that also discriminates against singletons.

The group of about 20 -- part of the Communist-inspired group that routinely protests Western holidays -- marched under angry banners that read "Smash Christmas!" in Tokyo's Shibuya district, where couples and families strolled for holiday shopping.

The scrooges -- mostly single men -- said they were against capitalism and were opposed to the commercialisation of Christmas.

"In this world, money is extracted from people in love, and happy people support capitalism," said the head of the organisation, formally called Kakumeiteki Hi-mote Domei, or the Revolutionary Losers' League.

"Christmas is the most symbolic event for this," he added.

The man, who identified himself only by the pseudonym MarkWater, said the rally was also in support of unloved men.

"Unpopular men, who don't have a girlfriend or are not married, are overly discriminated. We want to break this barrier," he told AFP amid the shouting protesters.

In Japan, Christmas is not an official holiday and is mostly celebrated informally as a romantic event for couples, while the New Year's day is an occasion for family reunion.

The Christian population remains small in the Asian country, stores offer special holiday sales and people decorate Christmas trees at home.

The group has held past marches to denounce imported Western holidays, including rallies against Valentine's Day.

Losers Without Women. Sad sack Communists.

I watch a lot of Asian television shows. Yeah, Christmas is portrayed as a romantic event for couples, indeed. Korea as well as Japan.

Imagine the mind set of someone who wakes up in the morning and decides the most important thing they will do today is march out chanting “Smash Christmas!”. “Losers with women” does not adequately describe them. Just plain old “Losers” would be a better title. Why don’t they go build their own Utopia and leave normal people alone? Of course when they try to build that Utopia they fail leaving death, destruction and poverty in their wake. Oh well, Merry Christmas to all Freepers. I have a special gig in San Bernardino today. Can’t tell you what it is but the secret password is “Ho-ho-ho”

Communist are all total loosers. But the problem is they want to force everyone to be as unhappy as they are. Goes for female companionship too. NUTS indeed!

Assholes. Yet, in a way, I kind of understand them. They aren’t demonstrating against Christianity per se, but rather against the over commercialization on Christmas by corporate brainwashing through excessive advertising and marerialism which bears no resemblance to the true message of the season. Having said that, if they’d psychologically make a total break from Mommy and their figurine manga and anime toys, and each get a woman, they’d change their tune.

The issue is never the issue. The issue is the Revolution.

Looks like the Revolution isn't getting much traction in Japan at the moment, but even 20 guys can make the news if they blame women for something.

Good, big picture perspective to inoculate this from turning into an anti-Japanese “Remember Pearl Harbor FR thread” ! ;-)

Good points and agree but I have a slightly different view on the commercialization of Christmas right now. Having just return from the UAE for about a 4 month work assignment, I can’t get enough of Christian symbols at the moment even the crass commercial crap. I’ll probably be ok in a couple weeks. :)
P.S. All the years I spent overseas in Asia and other places did not cause the same feelings. Sharia Law lands just have a way doing that to me.

Korea is over 50% Christian. Not remotely the same as Japan that views Christmas like the West views Valentines Day.

These douchebags are just protesting that they can’t get a date because they don’t have a job.

It reads sort of like a parody. Perhaps these guys are more pranksters or "Poes" than they are really serious. Then again we are talking about Japan.

I really enjoyed this TV series, Date.

Synopsis

Anne plays the role of Yabushita Yoriko, a 29-year-old economics expert who holds a Masters degree from University of Tokyo and works in the field of macroeconomics research. She is rigid and refuses to pander to others. As she aims to get married by 30, she registers at a marriage agency in order to find a partner.

On the other hand, Hasegawa plays a jobless man named Taniguchi Takumi who depends on his mother for a living while being absorbed in the world of literature, arts, music and entertainment. He regards himself as a high-class nomad and decides to register at the same marriage agency as Yoriko in order to find a rich woman who he can depend on for a living if his mother is no longer around.

The two of them who are said to be unable to love and unsuitable for love get paired up together and through a number of dates, become closer to each other while viewing the topic of marriage as a mere contract rather than the union of two people who are in love with each other. --Dorama World

It's hilarious, and yes, there are some Christmas scenes.

If ever there were a ripe base for cultivating nerds into Islamist converts in Jaoan who could become domestic terrorists, this would be the core. Losers without women indeed, going extreme and turning Jihadis in their hatred attacking individual women or shopping public at large with improvised weapons of some sort. DEEP Overpowering Mommy and Daddy Absent issues. I know the type. 99,5% of Japanese would ignore them completely, maybe a few would glance over in puzzlement.

I was in Shibuya today. It was so crowded with happy shopping people that this “demonstration was completely invisible.

“Densha Otoko” or Train Man is another excellent one from about 10 years ago highlighting the Otaku phenomenon.

Just losers in life. With only 20 attendees, it is surprising they have any media coverage. At least they weren't violent.

Compare those sad sacks to these idiots.

Black Lives Matter planning another Mall of America protest

Here, they'll probably have sympathetic coverage and support from the media.
