If it really works as claimed, you can be sure the modern counterparts of Dr. Ferris won’t be far behind.

That could be super cool. An entire new class of materials can be created this way and there’s no way there will not be some materials created without some valuable properties.
To: Red Badger
how will it burn ? like beryllium or lithium ?

I wonder if his check from Raytheon is just supplemental to the big check from the homeland.

It burns better than the steel in the WTC.

I'm guessing you're not going to be able to weld it because of the nanoparticles.

has anyone witnessed how magnesium can burn? does the dispersion of silicon nanoparticles in the new alloy preclude its flammability?

That’s what I was wondering - especially if used in cars. But I wonder if it could be used for engine blocks (?) - if internal combustion engines are “allowed” in the future.
To: Red Badger
I bet a lot of people are thinking SpaceX rockets to Mars. As long as the metal is insulated from the engine flames. (Boom!)

Cool stuff. But what about corrosion in the Magnesium substrate? That is a really weak point with Magnesium. Not at all rare on the earth (and in sea water), but all in a oxidized state. “Rusts” like a SOB, if you will.
