A few gun questions.

Christmas was good this year. I have a new Ruger LC9s Pro. I am looking for advice on a good inside the waistband holster. My 16 year old son used his Christmas cash to buy a Marlin .17 VRX-917 and we're trying to find the best scope for it on a teen-agers budget. Any suggestions appreciated.

This has a comparison between Alien Gear, Stealth Gear and Crossbreed. Very informative.

I can guarantee that you will be pleased with their workmanship:sideguardholsters@comcast.net Why not consider an OWB instead of an IWB? I find an IWB holster very uncomfortable.

I have a Fobus paddle now, it works fine in winter dress. Just wondering about t-shirts and shorts.

Tuckable waistband holster on Amazon. Don’t remember the brand but I’ve used it a couple of years and it has held up well. Pretty inexpensive as a bonus.

We’ll take a look at that. Looks good and the price is right. Thanks.

That marlin will have hardly any recoil, so a budget scope with good lens will do just fine. You’ll need dovetail scope mount rings and id put a Simmons 8 point scope on there 3-9 x40. Whatever you get a 3-9x 40mm is the way to go. He’ll have all the zoom he needs with a decent field of view. You’ll still want to use a blue three lock on the scope rings, and be sure to screw the scope rings in evenly.
Others here may have different opinions, but I’m a pretty good marksman on a budget. Good luck and happy shooting.

Thanks, makes sense to me. We’ll investigate that.

The primary 6x scope with the 22lr bullet drop reticle will not match the ballistics of the 17. The 17 shoots way flatter and much further than a 22LR. You’ll want the added zoom of a 9 power for varmint at distance.

Meant blue three locker (like blue lock tire) Not three lock. The blue can be interrupted by applying heat.

I still prefer an OWB holster under a long coat in winter or a thin jacket in summer.

A Simmons 8 point scope has adjustable zoom from 3-9 power. So a scope listed at 3-9 x40mm means the first numbers are the magnification ( ie 3-9). Second number is the width of the far lenses (40mm). Simmons is a name brand.
You just need regular cross hairs. If you want to see how to sight it in go to the Federal ammunition website and click on a .17 ammo load they offer. You can see their great graphs on bullet speed, and drop at various distances.

A good basic 3-9 I agree. I am old fashioned, don’t like battery powered scopes.

I favor inside the waistband holsters, and I recommend sticking to Galco or DeSantis as both are very solid companies with good histories. I have holsters from both and have been quite satisfied. The holster should be plenty snug at first and will have a good draw once broken in.

I’ve been carrying for a couple decades.
