One of those stories that may or may not be true. As the saying goes, "Interesting if true. If not, interesting anyway."

However, discounts do happen. Years ago I was traveling in uniform and ate breakfast at the train terminal in Cleveland. When I took my bill to the cashier, I found that the waitress had written on it, "GI Special. $1.00." That was a lot less than the price on the menu. I appreciated the kindness.
