I think the French Revolution was one of the most evil and barbaric acts of human history.
That said, I don’t think Catholic Monarchies are the answer either. Look at the current Pope for proof of that. He is at least as radical as the current POTUS who now occupies the WH.
I have a better idea: How about going back to the idea of a limited government constitutional republic as envisioned by our Founding Fathers. A government designed specifically to protect individual liberty and private property rights and free market capitalism. The Catholic Church has never been very strong on these principles. As a Catholic myself, I know. And the Church’s position on illegal immigration is completely wrong.
current Pope for proof , proof of what? How silly.
Factions in 18th century France lusted for power themselves. They ended up beheading even their own leaders as one after another pushed to be the top man.
It is the reason to fear one man with too much power. Some are good others are not. It is why our forefathers wrote the constitution. They had first hand evidence of tyranny.
Let a constitutional republic protect our liberties, yes.
Radical? I’m sorry but I don’t get where the radical accusations come from. Is he sloppy when he talks about non-faith issues? Yes, it’s clearly not his area of authority.
That said, has there been any radical shifts in the Church? Not really. There’s no gaping shift ala Vatican II of a “Franciscan Church” era.
The guy is well meaning, but he’s not going to be remembered as the next Pius X in his firm statements.
