(Flashback: 2014): New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo: Pro-life people not welcome in New York
Washington Examiner ^ | 1/20/14 | Charlie Spiering

Posted on 01/15/2016 5:53:13 AM PST by don-o

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo believes that pro-life activists, along with anti-gay activists and supporters of the Second Amendment, are not welcome in his state.

During a radio interview on Friday, Cuomo pointed out that Republicans were in the midst of a schism, where conservatives worked against moderate Republicans.

"Their problem is not me and the Democrats; their problem is themselves," he said. "Who are they? Are they these extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay? Is that who they are? Because if that's who they are and they're the extreme conservatives, they have no place in the state of New York, because that's not who New Yorkers are."

Yeah, so?
You are finding a problem where none currently exists.
In other words, you are looking to have a problem.
Unlike you, I AM a legal new York resident, and I don’t turn a blind eye to the going ons in this state in order to feel “injured” over a rather accurate statement about this state!
I’m not the one being overly dramatic, crying my mascara down my cheeks, when not a resident of this fine corrupt state.
That would be you.

You first, oh yeah..you did.
You just snark at those of us who still live here and have a problem with the values shown by the elected officials.

>> it doesn’t take into account all the hard-working, striving people who live here

I met some of them the last time I was in NYC, after DeBlasio was elected but before he took office. The cabbie — older black gentlemen — with whom I had a civil but spirited discussion on a variety of topics, including politics. The young family-guy cop we chatted with outside the street entrance to the Empire State Building. The helpful stranger who gave us directions near St. Patrick’s.

As a country bumpkin from TX, I approached theoretical NYC with fear and trepidation, and left pleasantly surprised at how safe, clean, and (gasp!) FRIENDLY the actual place was. Maybe it helps to stay within Manhattan. :-)

With so much information overload “informing” us, we often adopt a distorted reality of unfamiliar places. Paris, for us, turned out exactly the same as NYC. “Be prepared for RUDE!!!” they all told us. It didn’t happen! (Now the swiss, they were somewhat rude.)

Maybe it’s also in how the visitor treats the visited faraway place? We’re friendly and respectful... and surprise!, they were friendly, and respectful. Who knew?

Nevertheless, I would not like Texas to move closer in values to overall NYC or even NY state. We don’t have an Andrew Cuomo nor a Sheldon Silver nor an Elliott Spitzer, and I don’t want one. We can buy big honkin’ magazines for our assault rifles and we don’t have a state income tax and our minimum wage is still low.

FRegards and Blessings. I appreciate your insights here.

“”Wasn’t Cruz’s comment that Trump should have as his campaign theme song “New York, New York”? That IS NYC.””

You’re correct...but I still wish the point had been made. So true. My family still remain in upstate NY and they know they’ve been “had” by the way the votes go in the city.

These are the New York values Ted Cruz was talking about. Ted Cruz got it right.

He sure did and his statement seems like one that would force Trump to defend NY city aka Sodom. Clever chess move!!!

Your comment on post #1.
Seems to impute the “pro-life people not welcome in NY” notion applies to ALL NYers.
She’s over-reacting. Your decision whether you want to clarify that it’s about the NY leadership (as elected by Leftist urban centers dominated by NYC), not about the other half of NYers who oppose such views.

It’s amazing how friendly we found Paris. I’ve been told that the rudeness was from a different generation - when France was so formal that they wouldn’t give you directions unless you were formally introduced. And yes, if you come with an open mind, generally, you will be received well. Regards back.

Ah, there’s more. Some of us didn’t watch the debate, so were unaware of Cruz’s “New York values” comment. You’re probably referring to that, and miss m is probably missing the connection just like I did.

My comment #1

New York Values.

Subject of current buzz

Blast from the past

Calling attention to the fact I was posting an old article.

What Ever.

No point, just curious. I’m sure it is stupid question. My thoughts are running like I’m for states rights and so I’m thinking does a state have right to limit who can stay. Guess if their constitution says they can keep people out then they can. So i guess the answer is that it is up to the state. Therefore my question was stupid. Old age question. LOL

Concise comments sometimes confuse people lacking context.
I’m frequently guilty of that.

My sister lives in IL and knows she can’t out-vote Chicago. I really feel for people in those situations. The metropolitan areas have too much corruption and have too many low-information voters who rely on the leftist media. How do you talk sense to the masses in that setting?

Some of us didn't watch the debate, so were unaware of Cruz's "New York values" comment.

It wasn't just dropped in the debate. The subject had been in the air for at least two days. Now, I do not fault anyone for not knowing that.

And what seems to be lost in Cruz'a response is his mention of an interview that Tim Russert did with Trump regarding some previous Trump positions.

I took that as an indication of more to come about holding DT accountable.

You said: “Stop the snarky stuff about New Yorkers.”

I asked several times times what snarky stuff I posted.

It’s not that hard...
