I saw him once, forever ago, at a club in Hermosa Beach, CA. Whew.

Was that The Lighthouse? A legendary jazz club that I had a number of jazz albums
from, but by the time I finally hitchiked to the coast to go there (circa 1972) it had,
most unfortunately, become a rock and roll place.

I saw Freddie a number of times in the early 70s in Chicago at small clubs. A tremendous
talent, but seemed to lack the character of a great such as Miles Davis, and hence his
career was rather brief and disjointed. But in sheer playing ability, he was awesome.
