Guess what? Doing that caused me to lose 60lbs and more importantly keep it off without counting calories at all.

You want to know what else? If I play games with this, and start eating the crap again, the weight starts to go back on. The reason is simple -- I again get hungry, and when you're hungry you have to consciously avoid eating, which is hard.

You can either torture yourself, choose to eat in a way that you don't have to, or you will get fat with a greatly increased risk of all the bad health problems that come with being fat.

Yes, exercise is also important but let's cut the crap, shall we? If you actually measure caloric expenditure from exercise (I did; I wore a Garmin watch with a heart-rate strap for all of my running and biking while the weight was coming off) you will find that only about one pound in three comes off due to exercise. I proved this because I have every single work-out from that time period logged and I worked out a lot.

The rest of the weight comes off because your body regulates its caloric demand down the pie hole; that is, you're not hungry as often and when you are you eat less.

The best part of doing this, by the way, is that when you get to where you should be you won't have to change anything or "stop dieting." Your body knows how to regulate itself and it will slowly stop losing mass when you approach a proper weight and stabilize there without you doing anything differently on a conscious level.

You can argue with the facts if you'd like but the fact of the matter is that these "government stooges" have been killing you for the last five decades and food producers like it this way. How many boxes of Corn Flakes and packages of brownies would they sell otherwise?

Zero!

If you like Diabetes, blindness, chopped off toes and fingers from gangrene, heart attacks, strokes and being so damn fat and out of shape you can't run a half-mile or make it up a couple of flights of stairs without feeling like you're going to die, keep doing what you've been doing...

Animal fat.

Oh great. Was worried it sounded too, I don’t know, trying to think of the word...buzz/pc wordish. But diet does seem outdated and negative for some reason. This will be fun to discuss and encourage. I hate to say it, but Michelle Obama is right. It’s a BIG problem that’s cutting lives short. And we need all the conservatives out there to hang around for as long as they can. :)

I agree. Carbs make me feel hungry. I’ve found that it’s much easier to find low-carb choices now that I’ve grown more familiar with the diet. I love salads, vegetables and low carb fruits much more than I did when I was eating carbs.

You might find this site interesting:
http://eatmore2weighless.com/

Certain people find that their body easily switches into a sort of starvation mode and reduces metabolism if they don’t eat enough calories. That site has some people who are eating twice as many calories (good foods, of course not junk) and working out and they lose alot of fat.

yep.

I agree with your observations.

If I want to lose weight, I eat just foods that fill me up and stick with me.

For me that’s meat.

I was unaware of that, thanks. I follow a “mostly Paleo” style of eating. Meat (all kinds), vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds. It works well for me. I’ve also found weight lifting and sprinting to be superior to cardio.

Your experiences match up perfectly with mine.

Large helping of meat with some vegetables and I wont feel the need to eat for a LONG time.

I agree with that. I’m 70 and use weights and 1300 calorie diet to lose weight. I’ve been losing about 1-2 pounds per wk. I am never hungry.

On a lighter note...comedian Brian Regan talks about reading food labels...and serving sizes.

I never eat diet food or anything that is not full fat.
With anything low fat the flavor is always replaced by sugar. Sugar destroys gut flora.(Ask any rancher/farmer if they would feed sugar to their livestock and they will tell you no - they figured out long ago it kills them)

Bread and regular store bought pasta are among the worst things you can possibly eat. In this country they add an chemical to our wheat products that destroys your gut flora.

Soda - diet soda might have no calories but it makes you crave more food , again it destroys your gut flora.

Grains are fed to livestock to make them fat. Our recommended food pyramid has way to many grain servings on it. Most of our grains are also stripped of their nutrition and what they strip out of is used for animal feed.

Margarine is worthless nutritionally and is really bad for you. Real butter is great for your body and so is coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil.

Eggs - they are one of the best foods there is

Yogurt - most of the stuff in the grocery store is biologically dead and full of sugar . May as well eat a candy bar . Plain yogurt (if you can find it full of probiotics) or kefir is much better for you.

Kefir is very similar to yogurt but not as thick .
I make smoothies in the blender with it for my husband and he loves it. The man normally hates to eat fruit so this is how I get some down him.
I just use a little kefir + a tiny bit water + a small amount whatever fresh/ frozen / dried fruit(like prunes) I have around and toss it in the blender.
Kefir is really easy to make yourself too (yogurt is easy to make in a crock pot)

Counting calories will get you one thing - more weight gain after you stop starving yourself .

It’s a about controlling your blood sugar and having good gut flora.

I have been thin and muscular all my life , my husband is the opposite . I never ever eat diet food and lots of people gasp when they see me sit down to eat (oh yes I can eat my steak and then your too lol )

I made a deal with my husband that he would lose a ton of weight and body fat if he stopped eating out and stopped eating what he wanted and only ate what I put before him .
He dropped 60 pounds and he is not hungry and he does not crave stuff .

Dieting never works

It may be similar to the fact that many people who start consuming “sugar free” products such as diet sodas find that they lose no weight. The sugar free product is just as bad for you as the sugar one. What you need to do is stop consuming the product altogether. In other words, why are you drinking sodas when good old H20 is better for you?

Many years ago, yogurt was a true health food. But the big brands took over and basically turned yogurt into a dessert category. Pretty sad because as you state, real yogurt can stand on it's own as a delicious and satisfying food. The live cultures are also great for your digestive system.

But somewhere along the line, people thought that less fat and more sugar was better. The real travesty is the "fruit on bottom" yogurts. Most of those contain high fructose syrup and more sugar than you would find in a can of soda pop.

I also like the "cream layer on top" yogurts but the only ones I can find have the fruit on bottom. Right now, I favor the whole milk version of Siggi's "Skyr" which is a very thick strained yogurt. I push some frozen blueberries in there and that will stick to my ribs until lunchtime.

Try the plain yogurt at Trader Joe’s, either low fat or regular, very good. Have you ever made your own at home? Easy to do, I can give you instructions if you wish.

Testosterone plays a critical role in maintaining lean body mass. Peak testosterone production takes place in deep sleep. I’m a big proponent of targeting a solid eight hours of sleep a night. It can take about as much self-discipline as a regular exercise routine, but IMHO, plays a big role (and as an aside, I’m 46 with the same waist size I had when I was 20: 32-34”).

As men get into their late 30s and 40’s not only does the natural testosterone level decrease, but the body increases levels of some female hormones. Saw Palmetto, best known for its prostate maintenance effects, will also bind and inhibit some of the female hormones that would otherwise bind to the natural testosterone.

I also avoid soy at all costs as it will mimic estrogen in the male body.

I have eaten that way all my life .
I have always been thin and muscular.

Weight training is the best way to burn fat and calories.
It doesn’t take long to do and you continue burning for a couple of days . Cardio just makes you tired and you stop burning when you stop doing it.
