The problem you have goes back to the first wars with abortion laws where instead of trying to save 99% and fight for the rest due to rape, incest and life of mother; they instead wanted all or nothing.
They got nothing and have made a huge climb now to even save the 99% they could have had originally.
The all or nothing strategy has caused the death of millions of people IMO.

I see this related the “ratchet effect”. When the Left is in power, society is moved to the Left. When the Right is in power, they hold society steady. Then the Left gets back into power, and we go Left some more.
Regaining lost ground always seems impossible. In part, because we often avoid incrementalism and just want a great big honking victory — and this eludes us.
I just want to make some progress toward getting us back to what we used to be. For me, Trump isn’t “pure” but we would win some of the battles. That’s what I want.
