Seattle Seahawks star running back Marshawn Lynch has made $49.7 million in nine NFL seasons — and has saved all of it.

In a recent segment for "The Ian & Puck Show" on 950 AM KJR in Seattle, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network was discussing recent rumblings that Lynch might retire and dropped an interesting tidbit about Lynch's thriftiness.

"Marshawn Lynch has a lot of money," Rapoport said. "He hasn't spent a dime of his actual playing money ... ever."

Also he has an agent who takes 10% off the top, and probably other staff like lawyers and accountants to pay. But the main point holds. He has saved his net salary, and lived off his non-playing income.

Good for him.

One or two season of that kind of money will last for many generations of little Marshawns. And who says these guys are idiots.

“Beastmode”

Careful there - he has that Trademarked. Along with “I’m just here so I won’t get fined.”

He just opened up a store in Oakland selling all sorts of his stuff. He’s quite the marketer. Sound’s like he is spending all of the advertising and sales money - ‘cuz he does have a lot of nice stuff.

I was just telling my daughter how there was a Vikings player that lived in a house the next block over from me growing up. It was a much nicer house than ours, but nothing out of the ordinary like you see with the players of today. I saw something on the net, and Lynch has a real nice house on the bay - looks like it is out on a big dock/pier with nice boats parked below.

I’m not sure I would ever use the word “thrifty” to describe Lynch!

I’m thinking his playing days are probably over - he sure was fun to watch!

He would pay his agent 10%, his business manger 8% or so. The Fedral taxes are 38%. State taxes are horribly complicated because every state you play in gets their cut.

So, let’s call his salary $50 million. He probably nets about 35%. That’s about $17-20 million. Not horrible, but it’s still a lot less than people think.

Not that hard to estimate. Fed, state and local taxes eat up around 40 to 50 % at the bracket marshawn is in.
Estimate he’s got $25 million plus whatever he’s earned in interest and dividends plus whatever he puts aside from his $5 mil a year he gets from endorsements.
Marshawn should be able to retire on $100k a month after taxes easily.
I say good for him.

I think Marshawn is a Republican. When the Seahawks went to the White House in 2013 as Superbowl Champs, Marshawn didn’t go.

His Mom said “He just didn’t want to go”, but I think Marshawn is offended by Obama’s liberal pro-tax policies like the rest of us.

I’m positive he doesn’t have 49 mils. The various gommints took nearly half of that.

Also he has an agent who takes 10% off the top

The NFLPA limits an agent's take to 3% max or he can be decertified as a agent by the Union. If he uses the same person for non NFL-related revenue streams the rep's pay is whatever they agree to.

I worked with a guy who knew Lawrence Phillips. He and a buddy went to St. Louis and I remember my buddy saying he had a big screen TV and top of the line stereo in every room.

Later they went to the airport and picked up some model that Lawrence flew in. After a couple hours and realizing Lawrence was hanging out with his buddies, she demanded he take her back to the airport where he bought her a first class ticket back to New York.

He talk's (Glowingly) about his Dad, when he got his BIG PAYDAY, from the Seattle Seahawks, that he wanted Dad to retire. Dad said "NO," he only had like maybe one, or two years before he could retire, and Richard reported that Dad said, something like: I'd earned that retirement, and intend to get it. Dad is just an every day garbage man, or for those who prefer titles, a Sanitation Engineer. :-)

Make no mistake's about Richard Sherman, he is no body's fool, and one SMART person.

I won't debate this guy on the color of the sky, or if water is wet. (He would make me look like a FOOL.)
