Rare Earth (band)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rare Earth is an American blues rock band affiliated with Motown's Rare Earth record label (named after the band), which prospered from 1970–1972. Although not the first white band signed to Motown, Rare Earth was the first big hit-making act signed by Motown that consisted only of white members. (None of the previously signed all-white acts The Rustix, The Dalton Boys, or The Underdogs had any hits.)[1]

Since this is a political web site, I Just Want to Celebrate seems to be an interesting political song, especially for when it was written.

Among other things, does this song criticize fiat currency?

And that dollar bill flew away
Today that would be a $100 dollar bill.

I continue to be amazed at Barry Gordie’s understanding of the scene in the 60s/70s.

He didn’t care about white or black. He focused on the music...and the FUNK.

The Knights of Columbus, from my hometown, brought Rare Earth, to our town’s fairground for a concert, in an attempt to augment some of their charities with anticipated profits from the event.

The turnout was abysmal, the seat selection was terrific, and Rare Earth was better than anticipated. Great event.

Rare Earth was asked to change the lyrics to Hey Big Brother, to something related topically to the premier skydiving boogie of the year... known as the Freak Brothers Convention. They played there and came up with Hey Freak Brother. As a fledgling skydiver- this was a seminal moment/gesture that endeared Rare Earth to the skydiving community in so many ways or levels of appreciation.
