SALEM-A Portland-area Democrat is fast-tracking legislation that would shield the identity of the officer who killed Oregon standoff spokesman Robert "LaVoy" Finicum.
A proposal by Rep. Jeff Barker, D-Aloha, would let courts bar the disclosure of the name of an officer who uses deadly force for 90 days. To do so, a judge would have to agree there's an imminent and specific threat to the officer's life.
Barker put forth a last-minute amendment to House Bill 4087 at request of the Oregon State Police, who told him they've received death threats against the officer who fatally shot Finicum on Jan. 26. The bill won unanimous approval in the nine-member committee on Thursday on its way to the full chamber.
"The whack jobs--the militants--they were demanding to know the name of the officer that killed LaVoy, and they were going to kill him," Barker said Friday. "We're frantically trying to get this one done."
Police have not released the officer's name, citing an ongoing investigation......

The officers in other situations where people are angry over their actions have had their names widely revealed.
The Oregon State Police participated in the FBI operation goaded on by Governor Kate Brown and now they have to deal with the consequences. They put themselves in this situation.
Pathetic.
Will we ever know the name of who was responsible for shooting Finicum? The legislation speaks of a 90 day delay. The story says this guy wanted a six month one originally but the ACLU balked.
Perhaps they just want time to get the officer and his family into hiding.
Of course there is a double standard.
Link to story...sorry original did not work
404 not found. working link? by the way i understand what he was fighting for. i live in idaho and feds own over 50% of land. he wanted to die. he was on kfi saying as much. IMO.
Is there some sort of double standard here? <<<<
They knew they were wrong, or they wouldn’t want to hide. They’ll probably go into the witness protection program at our expense.
oh boy....i guess i should scroll down and read all posts to thread.
My post #3 has the good link. Sorry.
Well the “wack-jobs” already know the name of Jeff Barker.
Now all they need to know is his address.
I guess the state of Oregon believes they have the right to commit a non-judicial killing without Identifying who the perp is.
If that’s the case than Murder is now legal in Oregon. That is if your a protected government official.
The Public has the Right to know who the Killer is Governor Brown. release the name. The Public wants Justice and a through Independent Investigation. Otherwise there is No Justice.
If the officer has been getting death threats then that means people know who he is, even if this stupid legislation is put in place. This stupid politician is trying to put the horse back inside the barn.
A Democrat is concerned about protecting police?
My how the worm has turned.
But they released Darren Wilson’s name oh so fast....

Yeh, weigh all you want, we have a right to know!!!
This would make all legislatures voting for this and the signing governor complicate in murder after the fact.
That would be a travesty. A crime.
Two wrongs don’t make a right. - On the videotape, Mr.
Finicum appeared to raise his hands into the air and
started walking away from the car, I guess to divert
gunfire away from their car. It did NOT appear that he
went for a holstered gun; rather that he was reaching
for a wounded area on his body where the guy shot him
while he was walking & trying to surrender. - Mr. Finicum
made a tape just before he was killed where he explained
why he was doing what he was doing. Explained that the
Constitution did NOT allow for the Federal Government
to own any more than just the few acres where a few
Government buildings set in Washington, DC; much less
charge “rent” on grazing lands that he had been paying to
private individuals in past years. (I wonder what his
children will do now. I understand he had several children.)
Darren Wilson had his name out there fifteen minutes after Michael Brown stole his last Swisher Sweet.
Just give him a Lon Horuachi Medal and move along.
