Her secret abortions haunted her on her deathbed

… I recall a story my mother shared with me when coming onto my puberty. She told me that my paternal grandmother on her deathbed was quite frightened of dying. She confessed to my mother, who attended her passing, that she was “afraid to meet all her dead babies on the other side.” It seems Grandma had induced several abortions which were secrets kept from family and friends alike. At death’s door, Grandma confronted her previous liasions with mortality and murder, carrying this hidden fear for years.

That story made a strong impression on me, as I had been taught through the popular “planned parenthood” information materials that abortion was more like a tooth extraction than murder. A little painful, but not such a moral crisis. How could this be true when Grandma carried that guilt all her life? I couldn’t imagine similarly repenting my dentistry operations upon my deathbed.

Missing aunts and uncles. It is sad. I hope that she has found forgiveness from Our Lord.

She has repented, and will see God. I am sure of this.

Our God is a good, God full of grace and mercy. He asks us to uphold His word. We have all sinned.

Repentance is the first step towards salvation. It is not a guarantee against punishment.

That's right. "Believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ" for the full payment of one's sins "and thou shalt be saved" (Acts 16:31)

God sent His only begotten Son to be the Gateway to heaven. Anyone who believes that He died on the cross for them, for all their sins no matter what they may be, is Saved positionally right then and "shalt be" that is absolutely shall go into heaven and be safe.

There is no sin that is not covered, there is no other plea. No matter how bad, no matter the volume of them - believing upon the Lord Jesus Christ's payment of them is completely sufficient.

I once read the memoirs of a nurse who attended a young woman who was dying sometime in the 30s. The woman screamed and wailed not from pain but in fear because her husband had demanded she have five abortions and now that her personal judgement day had come she was afraid. The woman was too hysterical to repent and died screaming. The husband denied everything, left the hospital and never returned.
