Hypocritical the conclusion of this study as the low fat diets of the 1990’s were the ultimate fad diets that caused more heart disease and diabetes.

Newsflash: people aren’t mice, and nutritional needs vary. I have done paleo and it worked pretty well, but (probably due to English ancestry), it increased my uric acid which leads to gout and kidney stones. The intermittent fasting is a good thing, but I can’t do hardcore high-fat. Reducing simple carbs is a no brainer, and eating real foods is always a better idea. Damned shame it’s hard to do and damned expensive. Figuring out individual macros is an art, and no diet fits everyone, whether from the vaunted FDA or alternative fanatics. Moderation in all things...

The human paleo diet is bad for mice. That and only that is what the study shows.

Simple observation.

In nature you see all kinds of animals

herbivores, carnivores, omnivores.....

I see a lot of fat herbivores

I can’t think of any really fat carnivores

And the omnivores like bears when they want to fatten up for winter are not stocking up on the meat to do it

“But all of them have died.”

GREAT POINT. Other than the Flintstones, I have NEVER seen anyone that survived that diet.

“A low carb diet has kept my husband’s type two diabetes under control for 10+ years.”

Hard to ask for more than that.

People died at 30 in the Paleolithic age...that’s what I don’t understand about this diet.

There are essential fats. There are essential proteins.

There is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate.

Well, the Bible doesn’t mention bread 410 times for no reason. By “bread”, it does not mean the same made from flour solely from the endosperm (refined), but the whole grain; enough fats and proteins are in that package.

Didn't know mice are meat eaters.

Yes. That is the problem with every mouse (and disease knock of model) when it comes to ketogenic diets.

There is plenty of research supporting a ketogenic diet for numerous disorders.

A few well done studies:

Ketone esters increase brown fat in mice and overcome insulin resistance in other tissues in the rat

Eating the wrong type of trans fatty acids, particularly industrial can skew test results (stick with natural trans fats).

Trans Fatty Acids Induce Vascular Inflammation and Reduce Vascular Nitric Oxide Production in Endothelial Cells

A quick summary of ketosis:

Metabolic Effects of the Very-Low-Carbohydrate Diets: Misunderstood "Villains" of Human Metabolism

There are numerous medical studies that have been done on a ketogenic diet. The more recent ones are revealing many neurological disorders are metabolic based (diet) resulting from insulin resistance.

I think we can safely file the posted study under agenda science.

Agenda science promulgated by ectomorphic vegan scientists.

Thanks for the links. I’ll look these up.
