Need help with ipod

The kids gave mom an ipod several years ago. They put tunes on it for her back when, now she wants some new stuff added. I signed up for iTunes and bought some new music.
How do I get them on there? The library doesn't match and it seems to want to delete the old stuff. It won't sync or upload because I'm to "authorized". Why is this so convoluted?

Apple has done a pretty good job of taking Job’s first few iPOD interfaces (which were good) and turning them into interfaces which compete with Microsoft for awfulness.
Heck, I can no longer find the place to purchase new tunes in my iPod, and believe me, I’ve looked.

Was the itunes account used to load the original music the same as the account being used now? If not, that’s the problem. You can only have one account using an iPod.

Buy a generic MP3 player without the proprietary interfaces or just put a sd memory card in your phone and download your tunes to that.

No, that old machine is long gone. So I need to get the ipod and new account “sync’d” somehow.

Do you mean that you are "not authorized"? iTunes is probably requiring that the iTunes account and software be the same account as the iPod itself. I guess it is done that way to render the iPod useless if it is stolen.
The only way I know of to get music on an iPod or iPad is via iTunes.

The reason why it seems convoluted is because there was an original account that was used to purchase the music currently on the iPod. Any new music would need to be purchased with that same account in order to "add" it to what's there. A newly created account is just that: new. So, you can't have two accounts active on the iPod -- which means you need to either:
Stick with the original account, or:
Stick with the new account.
Hope this helps!

Buy a generic MP3 player without the proprietary interfaces... That may be the solution if this is too convoluted.

I’ve put stuff on mine from Amazon.
It’s been a while though, so don’t know if it would work now.

I’ve got a Samsung Mega, I rip my old CDs to my laptop and transfer them to my phone. No problems and I don’t have to pay anyone for my music.

Several years ago I buy an I Pad from a relative. I had problems too. I called the help line of Apple and asked for help. They of course wanted to charge me some kind of charge around 30 dollars. That’s Apple for you. I asked for a manage and gave them a sad story about being on a fixed income and needed help. I stressed I was old and needed someone to talk slow and please help me syn by I Pad. They patiently helped me every time I called and went through this story. No, I’m not embarrassed to say I did this because they shouldn’t treat their customers as one with money.

Sorry, sit by your computer when you call so they can talk you through it. They will help get the music from your library and put others in. Hope this helps.

That is the issue.
It syncs with the iTunes that it is “matched” to.
There is 3rd party software that will allow this, but
can’t really offer much information as to how that works.
