BELFAIR, Wash. -- Authorities say a gunman killed four people in a home in rural Washington state before fatally shooting himself after an hourslong standoff.
Mason County sheriff's Chief Deputy Ryan Spurling says the gunman had called 911 on Friday to say he shot and killed his family. A girl who survived has been taken to the hospital.

I am no conspiracy nut...but if people could be psychologically or through drugs turned into killers...I would not put it past this bunch.

There was a mass shooting in Phoenix earlier this week less than a mile from my home.

Now there is this shooting in Washington this week.

I am not normally a conspiracy theorist. But is it interesting that these occur just after the death of Scalia. I’m willing to chalk it up to a general uptick in evil.
When I hear “rural Washington”, I think of something in the eastern or at least central part of the state like Loon Lake or even Spokane, not some little burg within commuting distance of Bremerton, Seattle, Tacoma or Olympia. There are places in the LA basin more rural than that.

Belfair is a small town surrounded by very dense woods (as you note) typified by thickets of rhododendron, huckleberry - while the huck is only a three feet high, the rhododendron can be up to 10. All that intertwines alder, Doug fir, hemlock and some cedars, the occasional yew - mostly second and third growth. Further on up the road to the north past Tahuya there are extensive Christmas tree farms. Deer and bear are plentiful, as are the salmon in the fall. Just a few miles away is the Olympic National Park and Forest.
Lived there for 8 years in the woods never saw any big feet.
And miles to go before he sleeps.
We are about halfway between Shelton and Allyn.
