Spotlight is a legitimate bust.

If the Catholic Church didn’t earn this it would not have had an audience.

The church had it’s day in court. Unlike eccesiastical courts, it couldn’t deny children who had been raped a voice.

Does the show make girbilists out to be moral paragon which they are not? Yes. But they did shine the light on a big mess in this instance.

The proper course for the Catholic Church is not vitriol and circling the wagons. It is to make the people who were harmed whole, and to make sure this can’t happen anymore with humility.

I agree.

What was done was morally indefensible and to pretend otherwise only makes it worse.

The Church has apologized and it should continue to do so as needed.

Transparency is the key to insuring that this never happens again.

what do you think the Church has been doing? And by the way, while no movies are going to be made about this, the public schools have been cleaning up their acts. Far more school teachers molest children than priests do. And until recently, the public schools simply cut the bad teachers loose to find jobs across the country. I was a teacher for more than 40 years and I know that was how the game was played. There are more than 10,000 ISDs in the country, and verify little co-ordination of hiring practices among them, even within the states. Also, much the same was true of the many thousands of unconnected Protestant Churches in the country. Out of sight, out of mind. The Catholic Church was an easier target because of its centralized authority and of course because of the natural loyalty of priests for their kind. The motive of the pubic schools was simply to get rid of bad employees. I must say that a congregationally organized church has this advantage. The local Church could vet candidates thoroughly and were not weighed down by by caste loyalties, at least as much. Clericalism is the underlying cause of the priest scandal.

Ditto.
