Dave Brubeck Medley: Tommy Emmanuel - Acoustic Guitar Solo
You Tube ^ | 9/14/11 | Dave Brubeck - arranged by Tommy Emmanuel

Posted on 03/05/2016 1:17:25 AM PST by P-Marlowe

Tommy asked Reddit to suggest songs for him to arrange on guitar. The response was huge and very friendly!

So here is the second arrangement which is a medley of Dave Brubeck's Blue Rondo A La Turk and Take Five, ending with Birth of the Blues.

(these were made for fun, sort of as a gesture of appreciation to all music lovers out there!)

Funny you should post this. Out of the blue last night I decided to listen to Take Five on the computer. I hadn’t heard it in years.

Love Brubeck. Love Paul Desmond on Sax.
This guitar is great, too.
Thanks.

Very nice; especially liked Take Five.

I always found this Jerry Garcia acoustic on Bird Song especially beautiful; (he really lays down something sweet starting around 3:15; very jazzy feel; )

I walked out in the middle of a Brubeck concert about 15 years ago. It was dreadful and impossible to sit throughl, and I like Brubeck.

When I enlisted, fresh off the farm, in 1957 I’d never even HEARD of Progressive Jazz. When I took the all day battery of tests at Ft. Jackson, SC I scored very high. So after Basic I was put into an outfit of nearly all college guys, and we all had Top Secret Security Clearances.

Some of those guys became friends and introduced me Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis, Gerry Mulligan, Ella Fitzgerald, Dakota Staton, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, et al.....in addition to some crooners, like Sinatra, Nat “King” Cole, June Christy, and groups, like The Four Freshmen, et al. It was rather enriching. And great duty in Japan, I hasten to add.

Do you know the back-story of the name?

He was one billed by that name a long time ago. Inside joke.
